         <description><![CDATA[<div>- English language learners do not reach the same achievement level as their domestic and immigrant counterparts<br>- Some speak a language other than English at home and begin to learn English when they start school. They arrive at school with some proficiency and literacy skills in their first language.<br>- the oral language proficiency may disguise the support they need to navigate more complex English language conversations and academic texts<br>- Canadian-born ELLs may be difficult to identify inititally, particularly in cases where<br>registration forms record English as their spoken language.</div>]]></description>

Repeat in small groups to ensure understanding.<br>Ask the student to paraphrase instructions to ensure they understand the task. Use simple vocabulary side by side with the sophisticated new terms.<br><br></div>]]></description>
