Michelangelo was born March 6, 1475 in Florence, Italy, and died February 18,1564. When he was a child, Michelangelo liked to say that his family had sent him to live with a stonecutter's family in the mountains. In the Middle Ages, the first step toward a career in practically any profession was to serve as an apprentice; young men began their professional training by staying with and learning from an established craftsman or businessman. Lodovico Buonarroti agreed to the terms of Michelangelo's second apprenticeship, which was to take place in Domenico Ghirlandaio's studio, shortly after the artist turned fourteen.

The renaissance was greatly influenced by Michelangelo, whose influence is unmatched. He was an architect, engineer, poet, and a craftsman in both painting and sculpture. In his day, no one could match his skill as a painter or sculptor. While numerous artists worked with him to paint the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican and studied under him, none could match his talent. His work displayed an intensity, physical reality, and emotional depth never before seen. Some of his most famous works of art was the Sistine Chapel Ceiling, the sculpture of David, and the Pieta.

At the time, the painter and his brother were well-known in Florence, and it's likely that a teenager named Michelangelo helped them work on murals inside Florence's Santa Maria Novella cathedral that show the lives of Mary and St. John the Baptist. He was an sculptor, painter, architect, and poet from the Italian Renaissance who had a profound impact on the evolution of Western art. In his lifetime, Michelangelo was regarded as the greatest artists of all time. His paintings, sculptures, and architectural creations are among the most well-known in history.
