The much-anticipated third book in Paolini's Inheritance Cycle continues to rely heavily on classic fantasy tropes. The novel launches with magician and Dragon Rider Eragon, his cousin Roran and the dragon Saphira on a quest to rescue Roran's betrothed. The cousins soon split up, and Roran undergoes his own series of heroic tests, culminating in a well-choreographed and intense fight against an Urgal (a ram-human hybrid). Eragon, at the same time, encounters treacherous dwarves, undergoes even more training with the elf Oromis and gains a magical sword suitable for a Dragon Rider.

I think that this is a pretty good review of Brisingr. However, in the book Eragon discovers a secret about his heritage that I think is pretty significant, and I think that should be in the summary. But I can see how why they did not mention that fact, because it does not really impact the majority of the story

I can really relate to this quote. I am a laid back and optimistic person, so I can really see the wisdom in this. I agree with the fact that the more you worry, the worse an experience is. My philosophy is "Worrying means you suffer twice." ( J. K. Rowling) and this is like that quite a bit, except a tad more cynical. But still, it tells you to make the most of what remains in your life, and I agree with that idea wholeheartedly.

A big theme in this book is to fight for what you love. That is most prevalent with Roran and Katrina, but most people in the book have that underlying drive. In one Chapter, Roran emphasizes the fact that it feels good to crush those who would kill his wife and unborn child. And Eragon mentions the fact that his love for freedom and humanity is what motivates him. Nasuada says that her love for her late father is what keeps her going. And of course, Angela's drive is to educate people on the dangers of ferrets.

A prevailing sub-plot in the story is Eragon's revelation that he is the son of Morzan of of the forsworn, and how he can atone for the acts of his father. Of course, just because his evil brother is the son of Morzan. doesn't mean Eragon is... And not just Eragon. Roran and Katrina finally get married and start a family. Even Arya and Izlandi reconcile and finally treat each other like mother and daughter.

Throughout the book, I think that a prevailing tone is one of somberness. There aren't many happy moments. Most of the story is about battle and tyranny. Yes, there are happy moments spattered throughout the book, but most of them are fairly short. And all of them are placed within quite scary circumstances!

This is a fantastic example of the Fantasy Genre. There is magic, monsters dragons, and even a complete fake language! This series is a must read for anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre. In fact I would even recommend that teachers use this as an example of the genre.
