People view their body's in many different ways. Some view their body's in a positive way but others have a negative view. Body image is important to a lot of people, “Body image is how you see yourself when you look in the mirror or when you picture yourself in your mind" (Self-Image, 2). People with negative body images tend to suffer from many different problems. They do not love their body and they do many different things to change the way they look. Problems that come with a negative body image include, “People with negative body images have a greater likelihood of developing an eating disorder and are more likely to suffer from feelings of depression, isolation, low self-esteem, and obsessions with weight loss" (Self-Image, 3). Having a negative body image can significantly effect a person's health. Eating disorders have a very negative effect on the health of the human body and causes the affected individuals to shut down and not communicate with other people.
To have a healthy, positive body image, a person can follow the following steps. Each step is based on helping the person get to a positive body image, a place where they love their body, no matter what shape or size it is. Having a positive self image can help develop both physical and mental growth in a person. Mirrors are one of the biggest contributes to a negative body image, “spend less and less time in front of mirrors—especially when they are making me feel uncomfortable and self-conscious about my body” (Self-Image, 3). Mirrors show people what they look like, but when someone is looking at themselves in the mirror, they tend to find "Negatives" about their body's. Looking in the mirror less allows someone to worry about something other than their image. Something else that also helps contribute to a healthy body image is to list good qualities about yourself. Thinking about your positive attributes can lead to a positive body image, “list 5 to 10 good qualities that I have, such as understanding, intelligence, or creativity. I will repeat these to myself whenever I start to feel bad about my body" (Self-Image, 3). Focusing on the good, helps boost a persons confidence and their love for their own body. There are many other ways to contribute to a positive self image but these are the two that I thought would help the most.

I keep a positive body image by following these five rules. I stay away from the mirror as much as I can, unless I have to look at something in the mirror. I only look in the mirror when I brush my teeth or I have something on my shirt that I need to get off. The next rule I follow is not paying attention to anyone else's body. I do not wish to look like someone else or be as skinny as someone else. Next, I only exercise to get in condition for soccer and not to lose weight. I also wear comfortable clothes and not clothes that will show or hide anything. I wear a sweatshirt and yoga pants almost everyday because it keeps me warm and I do not care about looking fancy. The final step I follow, is doing activities that I like to do, even if it can call attention to my weight. I still swim almost everyday in the summer and I dance all year around. Overall, I have a positive image and I do not want to change a single thing.
