The goal of this law is to equip individuals with disabilities with the tools to make informed choices and obtain equality of opportunity. (Dell & Newton, 2008) These tools made way for assistive technology to help individuals in America who face one or more physical or mental disabilities.

Sady benefits from this by being able to enjoy full inclusion economically, politically, socially, and, most importantly, educationally. She will not be excluded from participation or discriminated against solely based on her disability.

Dell, A. G., Newton, D. A., & Petroff, J. G. (2008). 1.

This act allowed students with disabilities the opportunity to have a free appropriate public education (FAPE). Because of this, children received assistive services without charge and reassured families that their child was getting the tools they needed. To add, EHA protected the rights of individuals with disabilities and their families. (IDEA, 2022) Overall, AT was used heavily and now by many more individuals because of this act.

Individuals like Sadie benefited from this progression by receiving appropriate education from their public schools, including assistive technology. This also allowed the student's family to afford a proper education for their children.

A History of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

In 2004, many new progressions were made, including requiring children to participate in state and local assessments and having highly qualified teachers (Congressional Research Service, 2009). Assistive technology plays a role in these changes by making sure the assessments are adaptable to all student needs and ensuring teachers know how to use such services and technology.

This helps individuals like Sady be allowed to interact more with their peers and learn in the same setting as them rather than alone, which is crucial to growing and developing needed skills.
