         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Event:</strong><br>Persia was one of the most powerful civilizations at the time. Since it was already really powerful, it wanted to expand into other places, so it tried to invade Greece. Since Persia was a really strong enemy, all of Greece's city-states came together to defend against Persia's attack. After 3 attacks, Persia finally surrendered. Greece wins.<br><br><strong>Importance:</strong><br>This shows that Greece is very powerful when all the city-states are united together. Because Persia is the most powerful country at that time, while Greece still defeated them. This league made civil war disappear for a short period as it briefly united the city-states, protected them from invaders and also caused Athens become an empire.</div>]]></description>

Among his improvement to Athens was his strengthening of democracy, and expanded Athens powers abroad, and beautified the city of Athens<br>Importance: Pericles's leadership allowed Athens to Prosper and become their golden age. This impacted the rest of Greek history, as if Pericles didn't grow Athens to the power it was,&nbsp;it would not have dominated the other Greek City-states, which would not have started the Peloponessian war or allow it to dominate the Delian league, and Greece would have ended.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Event: Because Athens was a very wealthy city state at that time, the Delian League moved to Athens for storing the treasures/wealth. Importance: This event was important because if the Delian League did not move to Athens, Athens would not have used the money for rebuilding its city. After Athens rebuilt, the other city states started to hate Athens and finally, the Peloponnesian war started. It was the Peloponnesian war that divided the Greek City-States.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Event: Pericles gave a speech written by Thucydides about honoring dead soldiers to get Athenians keep fighting agains Spartans and stated the value of democracy to the crowds.<br><br>Importance:<br>This speech encouraging Athenians keep fighting against Spartans indirectly lead to the fall of Greece.<br>The speech was given before the plague has started, and at that time, Athenians was already losing advantage in the civil war. This speech was encouraging Athenians keep fighting against Spartans, but sadly, the plague swiped over Athens, turning the luck to the Spartans side. Pericles also mentioned the importance and value of democracy, he pointed out:</div><ul><li>Democracy allows men to advance because of merit rather than wealth or inherited class.</li><li>In a democracy, citizens behave lawfully while doing what they like without fear of prying eyes.</li><li>In a democracy, there is equal justice for all in private disputes.</li></ul><div>After all, this civil war encouraging speech finally became the indirect reason of how Greece got weakened and conquered, which leaded to the spread of Hellenism later on.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Event: </strong>The plague that raged in Athens took away the life of their best military leader-Pericles, and this led to Sparta's victory.<br><strong>Description: </strong>This image shows the death of Pericles.&nbsp; Pericles led Athens as the important military leader during the Peloponnesian War but taken away by the plague. Without him, the Athens declined rapidly.<br><strong>Explanation</strong>: The death of Pericles caused a big hit to both Athens and Greece. Athens lost their best leader and soon lost to Sparta.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Event:</strong> The two strongest city-states in Greece fought in 404 BC</div><div>The two city-states have fought before, so Greece already has split into Athenian and Spartan allies. Corinth, one of Sparta's allies, directly engaged the Athenian army. Athens retaliated, dragging Sparta into the war. Sparta started raiding Athenian territory, while Athens raided Sparta with their navy by bringing troops.&nbsp;<br>After a while, the two sides signed a treaty, saying that they will peace for 50 years, but it only lasted 6 years before they started fighting again.&nbsp;<br>Athens first attacked Sicily, and then Sparta fought the Athenian navy, finally defeating them after a decade. </div>]]></description>

His death was not only the end of his great era but a start of three new kingdoms - Egypt, Rome and Greece, led by three Macedonian military leaders who divided the victory from Alexander.
