Lewis and Clark Expedition: When the United States government acquired the Louisiana territory, the president approved of an expedition team, led by Lewis and Clark, to find a river or water body connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. Despite the expedition resulting in a failure, the data collected by the team was necessary for the development of the modern day United States. The journals of Lewis and Clark, as well as their interactions with various Native American groups, allowed the American government to expand westward, and further develop as a country.

Stravinsky's Rite of Spring: During the period this piece was presented, the type of orchestra music at the time was very elegant and smooth. However, Stravinsky's Rite of Spring was very rough and had a more violent tone. Due to this drastic different in music style, when Rite of Spring was presented to the public, riots and distress spread throughout. Many say that the audience experienced psychological damage. Fortunately, decades after, Stravinsky's Rite of Spring is recognized as a historically significant piece of orchestra music, as it paved a new era of music, making Stravinsky one of the most well-respected composers of classical music.
