First, it is not an ordinary day when Stargirl joins Mica High. Everyone is whispering talking about her, and everyone is wondering why Stargirl is her name. The protagonist of the story, Leo, is curious as well. He notices Stargirl is different from the others. Stargirl is a kind, and odd girl. She cheers on people for doing nice things, and plays the ukulele throughout the lunch wave. She doesn't care what people think, and people find that odd. From when Stargirl joined Mica High, things changed. People started wearing their hair more originally and not caring what people think. It all turned downhill during the basketball games. Stargirl cheered for both teams, and people got angry. They called her wrong and told her what she was doing was weird and not normal. She then wrote a letter to Leo, the other main character, expressing her love to him. They start hanging out and Leo adapts to Stargirl and sees things from her point of view and not like an outsider's. Leo starts to develop feelings from an outsider again, and thinks Stargirl is too odd and wants to change her. He convinces Stargirl to become 'normal' and she does. She becomes a girl named Susan. Susan wears makeup, has her hair down and wears skinny jeans like the others. But, Later on, Susan changed herself back to Stargirl. Leo was kind of angry. Stargirl went to the dance and got called weird and was slapped by Hillari Kimble. Stargirl was never seen again after that. It fast forwards to 15 years after the dance, and Leo is missing Stargirl.
