First of all, I would like to be an inspired leader to impact my future teammates working passionately during the work. Regarding Vince Lombardi’s statement, “leadership is based on a spiritual quality; the power to inspire, the power to inspire others to follow (Heathfield, 2017).” Inspiring is one of the most important skills I should learn because it plays a significant role to gather people’s following. To become an inspired leader, my actions will be achieved are listed below:

Explaining what I believed for giving my team a clear vision in the future. According to Simon Sinek’s speech, he has illustrated a Golden Cycle which talks about a company should working starts with Why, What, and then How rather than starts with How, What, and Why (for more information, please check the following video). He believed that “the goal is not to do business with everybody who needs what you have. The goal is to do business with people who believe what you believe (TED, 2010).” In my opinion, employees or team members are same as customers. I need to share my belief with them to make everyone on the same track.

During our group discussion in the class, I found that when I listen to others, they are more likely to agree with me and be able to accept my ideas.

Secondly, being competent is one of the key elements of leadership, but, sometimes could be forgotten by people. Many of us believe that competence naturally comes with the leader. However, I believe that it is a skill which can be developed. The actions plan for being competent are listed at following.

Being confident. As a leader, being confident can give my team members a positive impact and build trust with each other. I like how Dr. Ivan Joseph describes the self-confidence. “To be the ability or the belief to believe in yourself, to accomplish any task, no matter the odds, no matter the difficulty, no matter the adversity (for more information, please check the following video) (TEDx Talks, 2012).” When I, as a leader, am confident, others are confident to work as they know they can get support from me.

Developing my ability. The ability is never a talent for a successful leader. Not only for the leadership skills, but also the profession I need to work on. In the future hospitality industry, I believe that it will be more globalized. Therefore, understanding multi-cultures are extremely important for communication with people from different places. In the next two years, I plan to continuously develop my knowledge and skills by completing a master program as well as learning more languages. I would like to take my advantages to try my best understanding others and giving them supports.

Being open to risks. In my opinion, a leader should be strong enough to organize the team and be courageous to take the risks since the leader is the core of the team. “Courage is the mental and moral strength to engage in, persevere through, and withstand danger, difficulty, or fear (Daft, 2018).” Therefore, I will work on being more courage and be able to take the risks in the future.
