in 1968, wednsday 16th October. Tommie Smith and John Carlos took a stand, as they were getting their gold and sliver meddles, the two black athletes were both holding one hand in the air. Tommie Smith was holdign up his right hand this symbolizes black power, John Carlos was holding up his left hand and that symbolizes black unity.
