However, another minister pleads with Mr. Hooper one last time to remove the veil. He refuses and as he lays dying, he proclaims that he sees a black veil on everyone's face, which might symbolize the sin that we all have that separates us from each other and from God. Though in life, the veil separated him from friends and love, Rev. Hooper keeps true to his word and never removes the veil.
