Jupiter refused and said it would be better for men to suffer so the "Mighty One's" prosper and be happy. Prometheus then takes a reed and catches it on fire from the sun and gives it to the men. He teaches them to cook food and separate them from the beasts of the land. When Jupiter found out about what he did and decided to punish Prometheus and ordered his blacksmith Vulcan to sculpt a woman. Her name was Pandora and was given wonderful gifts from all the Mighty Ones. She was given curiosity as her last gift along with a gold "box" from Jupiter. Athena warned Pandora to never ever open the box. Pandora became Epimetheus' wife. Pandora became to curious and opened the box. Strange death-like creatures escaped and went into the houses of the men in the "town". These creatures carried disease, worry, and death. The men had never experienced this before.
