What does the reflector do?

The reflector adds more light onto the subject from the sun. When positioned correctly, it lights up a side of the subject that doesn't have the light it needs to be congruent to the other side. Even though it is used to light someone's body or face, it is natural light and not any studio or flash light. The reflector comes in four shades: black, white, gold, and silver.

Do you think the reflector helped or hindered the portraits outside?

I think that the reflector definitely helped the portraits outside, from my perspective. This is because the sun only hit one side of the face. With the help of the reflector shining light onto the side of the face with shadows, the portraits came out clear, full of light (but not too much), and beautiful.

What did you think of the studio lighting? Did you like the background?

For my group, the flash lighting was not working so we use a manual light that the assistants had to hold to model's face. It was very easy to accidentally flash someone in the eyes and blind them for a split second. I adored the background we use because I immediately called dips on it. I adored the different shades of grey on it and it helped bring out the model more.

Were your favorite shots of the studio lighting or the natural light?

My favorite shots were of the natural light. This is because the natural light brought out the natural beauty of the model more than the studio lighting, from my perspective. There is so much more you can do with natural light, like changing the color and shading of it with just a reflector. Also, with the natural light, the outside setting tells the models story than with a background in a studio.

Which one was your favorite photograph of the eight?

My favorite photograph of the eight would be the one of Isabella on the football field with one hand on the ground and the other on her knee. I like this one the best because the lighting on her face is completely congruent all around. What I would have changed about it is the shadow of her body on her ground and showing her feet more in light.

What do you think you learned the most about portrait photography with this project? How do you think it will affect your future photos you take of people?

The one thing I learned the most about portrait photography is that light is everything. Light brings out the structure and form of the person and it also emphasizes them. With my future photographs, I will remember that the location of the sun, because I know prefer outside portraits, is the most important aspect of taking photos of people. Light is beautiful and with my portraits i will make people look even more beautiful than they originally are.
