         <title>Using 3D Printers in Space</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>The International Space Station requires spare parts from earth, so NASA has recently been using 3D printers to recreate the parts needed</li><li>3D printers provide NASA with a "machine shop" on board. The 3D Print hardware was launched in the fall of 2014.</li><li>NASA uses Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastic and other materials for the prints<ul><li>The prints are uploaded from earth to be printed in space.</li></ul></li><li>Benefits: Printing in space reduces the time it takes to get parts to space. Because of this, it is cheaper to provide parts for the astronauts.</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>3D printing in space started in 2014 with the ISM project<ul><li>&nbsp;The ISM project tested the possibility of printing in space. The first printer was developed by Made in Space</li><li>Made in Space developed the printer through a fused filament fabrication process, which feeds a thread of plastic through a heated extruder and onto a tray</li><li>During these tests, it was demonstrated that 3D printing works normally in space.</li></ul></li><li>Made in Space developed the Additive Manufacturing Facility (AMF) that prints using a variety of materials<ul><li>One of the first parts printed in space was a wrench</li><li>The printer uses recycled material, which saves flights from carrying a large supply of 3D printing material</li><li>Made in Space launched the Made in Space Recycler which investigated the materials that are suitable to be recycled into 3D printing filament.</li></ul></li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>
