The things that Matt found challenging was tending the corn. Matt had t scare away the birds from eating the crop, I know this because on page 8 paragraph 2 Elizabeth George Spear says "The crows drove him distracting forever flapping about. Since the corn needed so much water Matt needed to lug to water to the crop. I can infer that it was challenging fr his shoulders and back. Lastly it was challenging to keep the animals from eating the corn because he would doze off from time to time. Now by inferring i can say the challenges were about the corn field and how there is so much responsibility. 1

When the author says that Matt depended on his gun to keep his stomach filled she is talking about Matt wants to go out ad hunt for food. I know this because on page 8 paragraph 3 Elizabeth George Speare is talking about how Matt is running out of flour and he is getting hungrier. So on page 8 paragraph 3 e author says that Matt was certain he would bring back a duck or rabbit for dinner. So therefore I can infer that when he author says he depended on his gun for for she is talking about Matt going out witch his rifle to hunt. 0

The advice that Matt's father gave him about the Indians was to be polite and kind. If Matt saw one he would be sweet toward them. Father thought that most of them and traveled north to Canada. Matt's father wanted to keep the peace between them. I know that Matt should speak in a polite and welcoming voice to the Indians just like how the ministers speak to him. This is stated on pg 9-10 paragraph 3 sentences 1-8 and half of nine. 2+

Matt found his daily chores always challenging. On page 7-8, the author states,"Matt discovered that there was never time enough for all the things that must be done between sunrise and sunset. Although the cabin was finished, his father had left him the endless task of chinking the spaces between the logs with clay from the creek bank. At the edge of the clearing there were trees to fell to let in more sun on the growing corn." This means that Matt had to chink the cabin, make sure the corn was well, cook meals for himself, make sure a fire was going, and Matt had to weed as well. He found all of this challenging because there was never enough time to do all the endless chores his father had left him. As the author states, " To cook a meal for himself once or twice a day, he had to keep a fire going.'' The corn patch needed constant tending. So, I can infer that Matt finds the chores challenging because they were endless and always needed to be done.2+
By,"He depended on his gun to keep his stomach filled" is that Matt relied on his rifle to hunt for food. On page 8, paragraph 2, the author states, " Carrying it over his shoulder, he set out confidently into the forest, venturing farther each day, certain of bringing home a duck or a rabbit for his dinner." I can infer that what the author meant by this is that Matt depends on his rifle to kill animals, so he could have food for meals, and to not starve. 2
The advice Matt's father gave Matt about Indians is not to cause trouble with them because the Indians who have not left for Canada, are just seeking for peace and not chaos. If he disturbs their peace, they might give Matt trouble. On page 9, paragraph 2, the author states,"They won't bother you. Most of them have left for Canada. The ones who stayed don't want to make any trouble." Another piece of advice is that the Indians are polite and Matt should be polite back. He should talk to them properly as to a minister. On page 9, paragraph 2, the author states," But Indians take great stock in politeness. Should you meet one, speak to him just the same as to the minister back home." Therefore, I can infer that Matt's father gave Matt advice so he won't get into to trouble with the Indians while Matt is home alone. 2++

Matt found challenging that there was to much to do.On page 7 first paragraph the author states,"Matt discovered, that was never time enough for all that must be doe between sunrise and sunset".Also stated on page 7 paragraph 2 the author states, "Matt's father had left him the endless tasks of chinking the spaces between the logs with clay from the river bank".He also had to cook for himself and it wasn't always easy because the flour was going lower and lower. Also back in their old home if they didn't have coal they would ask the neighbors but were they live now they have no neighbors. So I can infer that the chores felt endless to him.2

Question 2- The author means by Matt depending on his gun to keep his stomach filled is that he meant he would use his gun to hunt for food because he was running out of flour and he needed a way to survive. This is stated by the author on page 8 paragraph 2. For example, it states that Matt would promise that he would kill a deer for a nice and pleasant dinner. I can infer that he would feed on meat instead of bread and used his rifle to kill.

Question 3- On pg.9 para 2 the author states that Matt did not fear the Indians because his father gave him advice so he felt assured. He told Matt that the land would be safe. There has not been an attack in Maine by Indians. His father also told him " They won't bother you, most of them have left to Canada. If you meet one, speak to him just speak to him the same way as the minister back home. So, we can infer that Matt's father is giving him advice to stay calm if he meets and Indian. Also, he is telling Matt to be polite and nice to them so he doesn't anger them.2

1. What Matt found challenging about his daily chores is that he has too finish everything before sunset. One of his chores is that he has to be chinking clay in between the logs inside the spaces. He has to chink clay because his father does not want snow, rain, air and little animals coming in the house.Another chore is that he has to chop wood. He has to cut the wood because for the fire to keep him warm also because if the wind is strong a tree could be knocked down and the tree could destroy the house. He also needs it to build a wall to protect the house. The information is stated by the author on page 7 paragraph 2.1+
2. The author states that when she said that " He depended on his gun to keep his stomach filled" was that he depended on his gun to kill animals for food.. On page 8-9 the author says that " He seemed to be hungrier than ever in his life, the barrel of flour was going down as fast as when two were dipping into it." So I can infer that Matt depended on his gun to keep his stomach filled was because he 1

3. On page 9 Matt's father gives him advice to be careful because of the Indians. The author states that the land that they have is protected by Indians. Matt's father said not to be rude to the Indians because they will not do anything to you. The Indians will only attack if you disrespect them. Matt is told by his father that if you encounter one you must talk and treat them like the minister at their old home. So I can infer that Matt will not try to encounter any Indians and if he does he will be extra cautious not to be rude.2+
Chapter 3
1.

Matt found challenging about his daily chores is that he had to do chores without listening to anyone's advices. As a fact, he had to collect twigs, coal, and bark. Another reason is that he has to gather stuff on his own. Besides that, Matt had to harvest the crops, and hunt for food. Instead, Matt had felt hungrier and tried to not waste the powder. As stated by Elizabeth George Speare, on page 7, paragraph 1, it states "He could set himself the necessary chores without listening to anyone's advices".1

Question 2
The author meant by, " He depended on his gun to keep his stomach filled", is that he would use his gun to hunt animals. As a fact, most of them moved to Canada. Another advice is that once they tramped a long way, they had seen a figure. Instead, most of the Indians that stayed, don't make any trouble. Also, the Indians take great stock of politeness. As stated by Elizabeth George Speare, on page 9, paragraph 3, it states "The Indians take great stock in politeness". He also stated that "If you meet one, speak to him like the minister at home." So, I can infer that he meant to speak to them with great politeness like they would do to them. 2

Matt also found out that when he would wake up in the morning 1

What the author means by the phrase , " He depended on his gun to keep his stomach filled.'' is that he depended on his gun to bring food, as in he had to hunt with it.Also, when he hunts, he always hopes to catch a rabbit or a duck.On page 8 paragraph 3 the author states , "Carrying it over his shoulder,he set out confidently into the forest, venturing farther each day, certain of bringing home a duck or a rabbit for his dinner."I can infer that Matt is determined when it comes to hunting for food. I can also infer that since Matt's stomach was full he was feeling like a role model because he had his father's rifle , that his father has always kept perfectly clean and useful.2

The author Elizabeth George Speare states on page 9 paragraph 3 that the piece of advice that his father gave about the Indians is that they won't bother Matt. Also, the Indians have a great policy for politeness , so Matt had to be polite to them as well. His father finally advised to treat them as he treated his minister from his old home. I can infer that the Indians are as civilized as any other person and that they don't harm anyone at all. I can also infer that the Indians just want to welcome you.2+
