One of the videos is about how to design a research and second video is about different theories.
My main takeaways from the videos are as follows:

1. It is crucial for any researcher to not only record their research but it is also important to show the method how the research is done. It is usually the method chosen by the research that is at dispute but not the research material itself.

2. The second video is about the differences between deductive and inductive theory. Deductive theory is a way to quantitatively confirm a theory whereas Inductive theory looks/evaluate the data and develops a theory that is backed by the data.

1. Research is not only about what you find, but also how you find it. (the sources, data, relationships, etc)
2. The deductive approach is when a hypothesis is developed from an already existing theory, moving from a more general level to a more specific one. A deductive approach to research is the one that people typically associate with scientific investigation. The researcher studies what others have done, reads existing theories and then tests hypotheses that emerge from those theories. In an inductive approach to research, a researcher begins by collecting data that is relevant to his or her topic of interest. Once a considerable amount of data has been collected, the researcher will then take a time out from data collection, stepping back to get a bird’s eye view of their data. At this stage, the researcher looks for patterns in the data, working to develop a theory that could explain those patterns.

1. For researchers, It's important to record how we get to our findings for others to review because most of the time, the controversies are about methods, in stead of results.
2. Scholar practitioner focus on using their knowledge to make an impact on reality. We should keep a skeptical and open mindset and we need to pay attention to our epistemological and ontological views.

3. Theory explains how the world is the way it is. Research often involves testing of a theory.
4. deductive theory: testing out somebody else's theory, typically uses quantitative methods.
5. inductive theory begins with the world and typically requires qualitative methods.
6. typical order of research starts with in field qualitative research(small group of case studies) then use quantitative method to generalize the conclusion.

1. What is theory? Theory is not something you make up without evidence. As the professor in the video stated, "as you engage in the system, what you are engaging in is a system for explaining how the world is the way it is." One of the goals of science is to find the generalization cross-time.

2. In terms of research design, it's important for researchers to tell knowledge from junk. We should have a habit of skepticism attitude towards what we are studying.
