We were busy planning to raid Eayan's house as part of his special bday event that was initiated by one of our friends Kineth. When my mom came to Japan, all she had was money and a passenger princess attitude. During the entire trip I brought us to places she liked and taught her little facts about the artist. On the day of the Taylor Swift concert, she opened her phone to look at the lyrics to each song. She also opened Spotify to check the setlist and tried to sing. I will give my mom props for trying to be a Swiftie mom even if she only knew Shake It Off.

Lights, food, and people surrounded the park, and though it may seem like it was just yet another normal day for them, it was more than just that for us. This photo was taken last December during a Christmas laag with my cousins. This was a very memorable hangout as it has been eight (8) years since we last went out together. We ate our favorite dishes, and walked around with the concept of time being completely absent, as we only had one thing in mind: fun. Traveling to Manila alone for the first was quite a challenge knowing that I had a hard time speaking their language. However, visiting a university in the city urged me to step out of my shell and interact with other people. After the excruciating afternoon hours, I was welcomed with a group of activists. It was a first for me to see them openly fighting for the rights of students and education which made the whole weekend a memorable travel.

Hong Kong in general was a beautiful country where rural pasture met the luxurious city skyline, however, nothing compared to the Disneyland experience. My family's laughter echoing through hallways in anticipation of our adventures was replaced by the monotonous hum of the refrigerator in my room. The window I peeked through offered a glimpse into a life I wasn't part of—bustling markets with tall buildings, cars speeding through chaotic streets, and the silhouette of Rizal Park against the setting sun. After years of not seeing my relatives, we were finally together again. This time we were attending my cousins wedding, which has the color theme green, (it strongly reminded me of Dion). Manila has always been the place we considered our place to go to together. From a rushed flight to Manila, to traveling to Tagaytay, Boracay, Oslob, and places around the Philippines, these months were truly one to remember.

The day started with a speedy boat ride as I witnessed the beautiful sunset of Calubian, somewhere in the province of Leyte. Throughout the day, my mom and I visited her ninang’s resort (still in construction) and enjoyed the fresh provincial breeze. After we left, we saw a few farm animals, including some horses eating grass. At night, we had native chicken for dinner and to tell you the truth, it tasted as bad as it looked. Traveling in the province was 8/10, the chicken was -1/10.

My family and I went to this mountain resort during the summer when I was 14. My dad got up early and invited us to a walk, saying the morning was too beautiful to miss but the rest of my family was too tired from the trip. I decided to go with him because this is one of the rare moments where I could talk to him since he was away most of the time. I do not regret going with him even in my bedhead state because my father was right—the morning was too beautiful to miss.

Summer in Christmas Season

It was rare for my family to celebrate holidays together, seen as we were a big family. For Christmas 2 years ago, my whole family got together to celebrate in Leyte, our province. We had a great time traveling around the province together as a complete family, from the San Juanico bridge to different beaches and islands, despite the uncomfortable car rides we had to endure to get from place to place. I took this picture at Canigao Island, known for its beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue waters. It was ironic to celebrate the Christmas season at the beach, but it truly was the Filipino way to celebrate any holiday.

We solved the Art Museum Heist room but ran out of time for the Library room. Despite this, I felt incredibly grateful to have them with me on my first experience.

It was around June 21, 2014 when we arrived in a place called Hanevik in Norway. It was where my uncle used to live and had a flock of sheep. This was where I experienced feeding sheep for the first time and at first, I was a bit terrified because they kept crowding me and following me around. Yet it was a fun experience overall, especially with the beautiful landscapes that surrounded the place. It was one of my memorable experiences in Norway.

Some people aren't entirely sold on SM Seaside because it's far compared to everywhere else and the shops there aren't exactly cheap. Despite this, I think it's worth going to, especially as a date place. There are enough activities available, both nearby and with a little distance. Not only that but I think all the walking could really help with the conversation. SM Seaside is a 10/10 for dates!

Ten years, four schools, four school papers, two districts, two divisions, two cities, and one dream. I've visited the picturesque city of Puerto Princesa, the busy streets of Manila, and basically the three stars that completes the Philippine flag. However, nothing beats the sepia tinted Cagayan de Oro, where the city lights shine bright at night. I may not have what others call as beginner's luck and I may have waited for years before arriving at the Olympics of campus journalism. However, all of these experiences and the numerous people I've shared my aspirations with, made this NSPC more memorable. It was here that I've understood that the pen will always be mightier than the sword. I was hitting two birds with one stone as I met the woman who taught me to believe in the power of my words. Lim Ket Kai, Dahilayan Park, and Xavier University were nothing but places I've read through the pages of her novel but to see it in the flesh was overwhelming. This was a metaphor for me to realize that all of my visions will become a reality, in God's perfect time. I met campus journalists who felt the same fears with me as we held our pens with quivering hands. The coliseum filled with students enlightened me that I am not alone in my fight for press freedom.

My ink-stained fingertips will continue to fight for an equitable nation. Thank you, CDO.

A Trip to Flagstaff

After four years of not visiting the United States, the cool embrace of Flagstaff, Arizona was a sweet homecoming and enjoyable contrast to the usual heat in Peoria. The Arizona Snowbowl, located at the San Francisco peaks, was filled with skiers zooming down snowy cliffs. Despite being surrounded by these daunting alpine athletes, my family and I opted to enjoy the view above from the gondola lift.

The get together me and my friends planned finally happened. One of my friends had a beach house in our town and the original plan was to spend the night there together. However, the day didn’t go as planned as some weren’t able to get proper permission from their parents. We decided to take just take a swim, grill, and go home. The dinner was quieter than usual because we spent all our energy bickering and catching up while marinating and grilling. The moonlight came and we went nearer the ocean shore. We got to talk more without the bickering, played uno, drink and catch up with each other. The night started out with some opening their hearts out with the help of alcohol and ended with acting sober in front of our friends parents as we were fetched. Nonetheless, we all had fun and made core memories with each other. Truly a night to be retold during the next get together.

A Glimpse of Independence

I step foot on the hard pavements of Alta Cebu Resort in Cordova. For the first time in my life, I ventured out and explored the world without feeling chained against the wall. It was just me, my members, and the bright skies of the resort. No parents in sight. I was free! The moment I woke up, I only felt the dewy rain of the morning, not the loud snores of my father. The swimming pool at night felt therapeutic, with the moonlight reflecting the mirroring waters. Familiar sounds of nagging didn't echo in the area but just the yells of the Interactors playing around. But most importantly, the independence I felt was through the roof when I found myself walking with no sense of direction at all, trying to spot the orphanage we were asked to go. It was scary but I felt free and sure of myself. I knew I was capable of going on my own and I did. No place could ever replicate this cathartic self-exploration.

It was a night in Japan, thankfully somewhere before the pandemic happened. It was a cold and lonesome evening at Shiokaze Park, walking alone and seeing the vibrant lights of Japan, it all felt warm and comforting. I had realised that I felt alive again for the first time in a long time, something I had been searching for other than that day. The air felt clean and crisp with a hint of gunpowder, looking along the city and firework lights shimmering on the water invigorated me. Coming here during a festival is a lifetime experience, a 10/10, just near the statue is enough to get a glimpse of everything.
