Artifacts：

Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory (January,2020)

Montessori Method （2024）

Courses:
1. ECED-3039 Child Development: 6-12 Years

Reflection：

I chose these artifacts to add to my portfolio because these artifacts and courses enhance my reflective teaching strategies. For example, Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory (January 2020) gave me an understanding of microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, and macrosystem. I recognize how family activities, social activities, and cultural values affect children’s well-being and behavior. So when a child shows loneliness, I will reflect on the impact of family or community life. I will work with the family to better make the child feel comfortable and safe. Among them, Montessori education can add activities to children’s lives. For example, the activity of children using clips to clip coins not only exercises children’s hands-on ability but also allows children to exercise in daily activities. By applying this reflective practice, I better support the holistic development of children and provide inclusive learning experiences. Through my effective collaboration with each family and professional, every child has developed positively.

I want to provide a fair environment for every child. This requires me to understand the background of each child and have sufficient educational expertise. It is important to let the family actively participate in the growth of the child. This means that I need to understand the cultural background and religion of each family and support the needs of each family. So I often hold different cultural activities such as Sari in India. I encourage my Indian colleagues to introduce the traditional culture of India to the children, and let the children feel the Sari materials through touch and smell.

When the activity started, the children exercised their arm strength by grabbing, holding, pulling and pulling. This is good for the children's well-being. Freire advocates respecting the voice of every child, making children active participants in learning rather than passive recipients. This educational philosophy encourages children to think, question and express, which helps to cultivate independent thinking and self-confidence. In day care, I encourage children to express their thoughts and feelings every day to cultivate their independent thinking and self-confidence.

I love working with children and supporting their growth.

Before coming to Canada, I tutored English for children aged 5-12. This experience allowed me to see the children go from not knowing the letters to being able to read a story fluently. Every progress of the children gave me a strong sense of satisfaction. This experience made me realize the importance of communicating with parents and building positive relationships with children.

Therefore, I came to Canada and chose the Early Childhood Education Program. I want to learn more about children's development and how to grow with children in a positive way.

In this e-Portfolio, I will share the professional knowledge I learned at Fanshawe and my reflections.

For example, ECED-3040 Professionalism, Ethics and Advocacy deepened my understanding of ethical practice, advocacy, and professional responsibilities as a RECE. I will build trust with families and maintain positive communication with them. For example, as a Chinese, I will take the initiative to communicate with Chinese parents or Chinese parents so that parents will not be troubled by language barriers. Through this process, I not only win the trust of parents, but also help them find appropriate strategies to support their children's growth.

In this class, I see that every child has a unique background and experience. I should support and respect every child's culture. So I should not only show it at some specific festivals, but also develop cultural diversity in daily life. For example, in Sari Activity, we integrate Indian culture into children's daily activities.

During this semester's work experience, I had the opportunity to apply the knowledge and strategies I learned in the classroom to preschool children aged 2-4 years old. I designed at least 5 activities that supported the children's development. The most rewarding part of my internship was building a positive relationship with the children. When I noticed that a group of preschoolers were interested in architecture, I helped create a loose part area to expand their thinking and teamwork. This experience made me more confident in my role as a RECE.
