Role Model: Ruffin was a role model to women around the country. She taught women to stand and not be silent to the misjustices happening around them. “A staunch feminist, Ruffin urged readers to break out from the traditional roles of wife and mother that defined most 19th century women. She implored women to educate themselves, get involved in politics, and try out new occupations.” (“Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin”, Encyclopedia of World Biography Online). She is a name you should know because she taught women they could be more than just a wife and mother. She taught women that they could do great things.
