In this quote, Mamishu begs for people not to say anything about Michael, however others who suffered through loss and all this mayhem snapped back as everyone needed something but got nothing. However Bobeshi intervened saying that she was asking for nothing, only asking for no one to say a word. This quote shows how everyone soon became insensitive to everyone’s states of life throughout the Auschwitz because so many people lost everything.

In this quote, Michael was made into a code, a number, a person involved in a terrible system. He was in the eyes of Hitler and the Nazis, inhuman. This connects to everyone that was ever put into Auschwitz or ever suffered through the Holocaust, as everyone that experienced the Holocaust made into a terrible causality that no leader cared for.

In this quote, Michael explains how his clothes where so unhandled and dirty and insufficient for his body size. This quote shows how no one cared for Michael and all the other prisoners and how poor there conditions were even in their clothing.

In this quote,Michael,Mamishu, and Bobeshi had to say goodbye to Samuel and Papa very quickly the families got separated from each other. This affects the story very largely, as it was unbeknownst to Michael and the others that they would never see each other again and that the goodbyes were all to insufficient.

In this quote, Michael tells the readers of how he used to dream about seeing Mamishu again, shouting “Mamishu you came back!”. This makes me ask the question if Mamishu will ever come back after being taken away, it also shows even though Michael for so long couldn’t show vulnerability, he showed it when it came to Mamishu and the hope of seeing her again.

In this quote, Mamishu was leaving and being taken away by SS guards, during this Michael didn’t cry or say anything. This quote shows the symbolism of the pain and almost strong nature that Auschwitz caused people to have. Michael knee that if he showed weakness he would be punished. And soon pain and hurt for him was as natural as anything and he became numb.

In this quote, Michael explains how his sickness saved his life so when the SS guards put everyone on death march, Michael was left behind and him and Bobeshi were saved. He also explains how in Auschwitz how out of the hundreds of thousands of children only 52 survived, because they were the worlds best hiders. This quote surprised me at first because I would’ve thought that more children survived but after thinking about it, the number seems sadly realistic because of how many people let alone survived the horrors of Auschwitz.

In this quote, Ruth recites the Catholic Prayer to guards who invaded their house while Micheal was in hiding underneath the bedding. By doing this Ruth saved Micheal and all of his family with him, this was because the invaders were there to take away Jewish persons who came back to town. Michael and his family were Jewish, however Ruth grew up in a catholic home that her parents put her in to save her. This proved beneficiary for all later in Sophie’s life.

In this quote, Michael is finally reunited with his mother after everyone believed she was dead, except for Michael. This part in the story is very important because it shows that no matter what Michael had hope and believed that one day his mother would return to him despite everything he was told. It is also stunning to Micheal and readers of the story because he was finally with his mother at last.

In this quote, Michael reflects on the day he learned that him and Mamishu were going to America, this indicates where his second life begins. My question on what exactly will his second life turn out to be like, I think from what readers learn while continuing in the book and seeing that he made this book, it must’ve turned out pretty well.
