Mental illness is looked at as a sign of weakness in the black community. Most mentally ill patients feel a sense of shame. Most African Americans rely on their religious beliefs to deal with their illness instead of seeking professional help.</div>]]></description>

Cultural awareness is essential to the treatment of patients from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The fields of psychology and psychiatry are the least diverse medical fields.
