Our learner spaces circle around our main building learner space, where we come together as a whole community every day. From there, we have four different buildings (separated by subject not age), an outdoor recreation area, a garden area, and a library. In our main building we feature exploring different cultures and languages through the arts. Then you can go either right, left, or forward to get to our four core buildings. Starting from the right we have Reading/ writing, Math, Science, and Social studies/ history. Each building is set up structure wise the same. You walk in the door and you’re met with three big class rooms, each one for a different grade. At Evergreen, we feel that our curriculum for each subject builds on to one another as the student progresses with us, so what better way to build than to be in the same building. Then, in between the first two building is our recreation area. We feature a track where the center is filled with different balls, goals, bases, etc. and we also have a few tables around the track for the teens to sit under the trees and hang out while enjoying their time outside. Another outside feature here is our garden area in between the next two buildings in the back of the school yard. Here each class has a planter box to grow whatever their hearts desire, as well as having their own class row in the green house. Last but certainly not least is our library, in between the two core buildings to the left, here you will find anything the students will need for research and if there isn’t a book for it they can use our state of the art computer lab to the left after walking into the building.

How are we diverse at Evergreen Middle School? The best way to explain this is by just taking you though what a student experiences at our school on a daily bases. From the moment any of our students walk in to our building at 8am they are met with a morning snack and diversity from different cultures. In our main building from 8am there is what we like to call our wake up and welcome time of the day. We engage the students in a brief 15 minute morning lesson of another culture’s language, art, drama, lite music, and dancing to stretch things out while they munch on a lite snack. During these brief lessons it gives our students time to really arrive and be present for the school day, as well as interact with other peers and teachers that may not be part of their main school day. At 8:15am our students report to their assigned core classroom where they keep their things and start on their first 45 minute core lesson. Then, for 15 minutes there is school wide outside break where half the students may tend to their garden project and the other half are in the recreation area. At 9:15am it’s back inside to their next core building and its 45 minute lesson. Now, we have hit the middle of our school day at 10am for another 15 minute brief lesson and snack in the main building with everyone, maybe finishing something they didn’t get to finish that morning or moving on to another cultural recreation of the room. At 10:15am our students head to their third core building for that 45min lesson. Then once again at 11am it’s time for our last 15 minutes outside. The half of the students that were in the recreation area earlier are now tending to their garden project and the ones that did their garden project are now in the recreation area, alternating what building does what each day so that through the week they all play outside together. Finally, at 11:15 am it’s time for their last core building of the for that subjects 45 minute lesson before getting ready to go home at 12pm. However, with understanding that our school does not run of a normal work schedule for the U.S., we do stay open for an additional 4 hours facilitating an after school program. This also allows students extra time with our resources, including extra teacher help, to put together any projects in which they might have fallen behind on.

Technology in our school is GenYES based for our lessons, however there is some technology in our school that even blow the students minds. For example, in our applied science class we have tables that fold up and become a future engineer's dream. For our whole school to use, we have a 3D holograph projector. Along with the big technology items we also have smaller ones such as enough S.T.E.A.M. student sets to go around every classroom and computers available to for every student enrolled. We believe that the technology information era is the true way to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Curriculum

Our mission is to provide a student centered education unique to the growing adolescent through a variety of learning opportunities that build on top of one another and to create a learning community with team efforts from students, parents, and staff. The curriculum is based on a traditional school year and 4 hour school days with breaks of provided nutrition and quality outdoor time. In all our classrooms, we focus on an integrated curriculum based on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, while still making the main reason for the course shine. We provide core curriculum classes as followed:

6th grade 7th grade 8th grade

-Language arts -English -English

-Mathematics -Pre-Algebra -Algebra

-Natural Science -Chemistry/ -Applied Science

                                                        Biology

-Social studies -Multicultural history: -Multicultural history:

                                                        The past The present

In addition to our core curriculum, we also provide two 15 mins assemblies that cover different cultural languages and diversities through the arts (music, drama, dancing, and art).

Here at Evergreen, we understand that just because one may have not had the opportunity to continue their education doesn’t mean they can’t be a meaningful part of our school community. However, we do feel strongly about our teachers being well educated so that we may trust them with the full responsibility of facilitating our students learning. That in mind, all lead teachers are required to have their master’s degree in their respected field or in their study of teaching, Teachers’ assistants need to have their bachelor’s degree and in addiction our school will provide them with funding help for working on getting their masters, if they wish to climb our career ladder. Finally, all support staff are to have their high-school diploma or equivalent and with also receiving funding help from our school they must be in the process of continuing their education. With regards to this, we also require that all staff be flexible within reason. We strive to create a supportive system for our learning community and wish to create that stability by moving our teachers with our students in their journey whenever possible.

At Evergreen Middle School as a school community we believe in the construction of education. It is our goal as educators to help facilitate a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which our students can grow emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. Feeling strongly that all can learn, we act as a guide allowing the child's natural curiosity to engage their critical thinking skills though creating concepts and solving problems. We promote respect for all things and all people by providing an environment where the children learn how to reason and communicate.
