"Dad, please come, we need you!" I hollered. Lori and Brian and Mom and Maureen all chimed in. "We need you!" we shouted. "You're the head of the family! You're the dad! Come on!"

The quote shows how the family chooses to give Rex their complete love, despite the terrible situations he repeatedly puts the family in.

"The next time they visited, Brian's head was wrapped in a dirty white bandage with dried bloodstains. Mom said he had fallen off the back of the couch and cracked his head open on the floor, but she and Dad had decided not to take him to the hospital."

This quote reflects non-conformity because socials norms would tell you to rush your child to the hospital if they crack their head open. However Rex and RoseMary do not conform to social norms and choose to not trust hospitals and keep Brian home.

"But since we couldn't afford to pay the town's trashcollection fee, our garbage was really piling up. One day Dad told us to dump it in the hole. "But that's for the Glass Castle,"... and as Brian and I watched, the hole for the Glass Castle's foundation slowly filled with garbage."

This quote shows Jeannette and Brian realizing that the Glass Castle that Rex repeatedly promised them would never be built. The Glass Castle represent a broken promise.

"Everyone has something good about them," she said. "You have to find the redeeming quality and love the person for that." "Oh yeah?" I said. "How about Hitler? What was his redeeming quality?" "Hitler loved dogs," Mom said without hesitation."

This quote shows how RoseMary found it easy to forgive others, and is quick to forget about any unredeeming qualities they may have.

"Mom always said people worried too much about their children. Suffering when you're young is good for you, she said. It immunized your body and your soul, and that was why she ignored us kids when we cried. Fussing over children who cry only encourages them, she told us. That's positive reinforcement for negative behavior."

This quote shows how RoseMary would often neglect her children causing them to become self sufficient and fend for themselves.
