Why him?

Ashton Kutcher is an actor and social justice advocate. He single handedly got me invested in learning and fighting against human trafficking and modern slavery. He was one of the first people who spoke outwardly of the ongoing child sex trafficking rings in the United States. He met with the senator in hopes to bring awareness and change laws in regards to prosecution.

When I was younger I saw the video of him speaking with the Senator, and learned about how young newborn infants are being trafficked immediately after birth. A specifically disturbing comment that shaped my career goals, was that people are recording and selling videos of fetuses with the umbilical cord attached being used as sex slaves. These babies are essentially being born to be used once, sold and then they die due to severe bodily trauma.

Ashton Kutcher is an American actor and producer, he was married to Demi Moore and was most well known for his role as Kelso in "That 70s Show". He has been a very successful actor since a young age. He was never known as a social justice advocate until he co-founded THORN. THORN is an organization which seeks to find and expose sex traffickers as well as save the children who are being exploited.

He founded THORN in 2012 with now ex-wife Demi Moore, he has since resigned as co-founder due to public controversy. However, his actions still define my desire to do the same, find and expose traffickers and help those being trafficked. More specifically the youngest children involved, as many people don't realize how young children can really be while being trafficked or exploited.

Ashton Kutcher fought and continues to fight against human traffickers and modern slave buyers. He speaks of how his initial interest in fighting human trafficking began when watching a show of dateline where someone disclosed a human trafficking scenario. When he started finding more information and exposing traffickers he became all the more passionate. He has made attempts, some successful and some not, to change laws around prosecution and levels of criminalized human trafficking behaviour.

He met with a Senator and made amazingly compelling cases and told stories of babies being human trafficked for "one time use", as young as umbilical cord still being attached. Since founding Thorn he has saved over 6000 children from trafficking and exposed several trafficking organizations.

Ashton Kutcher and now ex-wife Demi Moore identified where and how human trafficking organizations were being operated. They identified how child pornography and technology have huge role to play in this process. They educated themselves and others on the distribution of child pornography and human trafficking. They made attempts and have goals to eliminate child pornography from the internet.

They saved over 6000 victims of trafficking and caught over 2000 traffickers and pedophiles. The foundation is still fully operational and strives to save as many victims as possible.

Macro level.

Ashton Kutcher testified in-front of congress in attempt to change laws and put away various traffickers. This is on Macro level of social work, Macro level refers to policy change and legal action such ass law changing and global effects. Kutcher had a global effect with his efforts to combat human trafficking.

He exposed and caught several traffickers and saved thousands of children. He also made technological advances in the screening processes to find child pornography.

Ashton Kutcher decided a change needed to be made when he discovered the extent of human trafficking in Cambodia. Once he learned about how prominent trafficking was in the United States, he decided to take action. Using his fame and influence for good, making society see what is going on behind closed doors.

He met with Congress, met with a Senator and several co-organizations in hopes of changing laws, processes, policies and making the process of tracking the source of child pornography easier and quicker.

What didn't work?

Ashton Kutcher had goals and plans to not only prevent further publications of child pornography, but eradicate it from the internet. He also made constant attempts to not only capture predators but put an end to human trafficking all together. Unfortunately a global job and top form of currency in the world is sex trafficking and child pornography. As much as it would be amazing to eradicate the existence of this behaviour, it is impossible or highly improbable that one foundation, let alone one man, is capable of this.

What didn't work?

Unfortunately, moving further into the "what didn't work?" category, Kutcher ended up resigning as co-founder of THORN. This was following a letter of character reference he provided during a court case of a close friend of his who was accused on two cases of rape. However, he was never found guilty. Due to the backlash however, Kutcher decided to resign from THORN.

Thorn is still running and making attempts to combat trafficking, however, Kutchers plans did not quite workout as he had hoped.

Anti-oppression

When it comes to anti-oppressive practice, I believe Kutcher took that position very well. His only stance was against child predators and sex traffickers. His entire goal was to save children and women who were being exploited for sex and money. No one victim has more of a right to be saved than another, yet every victim has the right to be saved.

The women and children are not only being exploited but also oppressed by those who have more power and status over them. This is my plan throughout my career. Women and children, especially babies who are being trafficked and sexually exploited have only ever lived a life of oppression, and putting an end to this is my greatest life calling.

The effect he had on me

When I heard Ashton Kutchers speech in-front of congress for the first time, I was deeply saddened and moved. I immediately started doing research on child trafficking, pornography distribution and sex slavery. Finding out that human trafficking has been and remains the top form of global currency and income is the scariest and most shocking news I have ever read. It falls under the same category of the types of child sexual abuse there is a demand for, its mortifying. Children fresh out of the womb are getting raped and recorded to be sold for public consumption. The types of individuals which contribute to this demand are the individuals I plan on capturing and putting away for life. Thanks to Kutcher, I was educated on situations I have never been aware of.
