Main character: the bad seed,

Plot: The bad seed explains his story about why or how he became the bad seed. He talks about how he got split up from his family in the sunflower field and how he got eaten from a "giant" and got spit out to the bottom of the bleachers. He said it made him become a bad seed.... but then something shifted, and he decided he wanted to be good again so he could be happy. It goes into his journey of becoming good and he talks all about how hard it is to be good but also how much it's worth it.

My personal response: From what I gather from the story it gives a message that you shouldn't assume because you don't ever know why someone is the way they are until you learn their story. Don't assume you know why someone acts the way they do. I feel this can really be connected to when I become an educator because it's important to learn all about a student and not just assume the worst just because they act out in class.

Curriculum connections: This book relates to all other curriculums like science, social studies, PE, etc. because good behavior is essential for all classes. But it's also important to keep that open mindset and get to know those around you or create a space where you want to be a good person.

Main characters: Josh, and JB (follows the story of Josh)

Summary: The Crossover is all about these two brothers who play basketball named JB and Josh (gives all the basketball lingo and talks a lot about them actually playing on the same team). At the beginning it goes into their life in and outside of the court and explains all about how their dad was also a professional Basketball player when he was younger. From there it talks about how there faced with a big challenge between the brothers and how they grew apart due to the brother (JB) prioritizing other things like love, but also how their father (Chuck) has some big health issues that start to really affect things. The boys learn the importance of family and have to make a decision on what's more important because they lived on the court majority of the time, they realized what's more important to them. Overall, the boys learn a lot about who they are as a person and how everything they have gone through helped them become who they are. (very coming of age type of book)

Personal response: I really enjoyed the book because I had a lot of connections to it like playing basketball and getting to read all about their experience was pretty unique. I also really enjoyed getting to see the character development and how you learn as you get older what's important to you and how that can affect your life in the long run. 

Curriculum connections: this is a good book to tie with PE because it's all about basketball, but also English because it's a good representation of Poetry in a different sense then most poems. It also shows a good representation of the importance of learning what is vital to you.

Main characters: David and his teacher (narrating voice)

Plot: The book is all about learning rules of being at school. The teacher is the narrating voice, and she is telling David the rules he needs to follow while he is there at school.

My personal response: From what I gathered this is very good for younger students who are just learning what to do at school. They can learn a routine of why we must do certain things to keep all of us safe and sound at school. (This would be a good book for the first day when learning all the rules or routines)

Curriculum connections: This book can relate to all other curriculums and or anything at school because rules are to be implemented all throughout the school regardless of the subject or where you are. These are because they keep things in order, and it keeps you and your peers safe from any trouble or accidents that may happen.

Main characters: The main characters are Eliezer and his family (his two sisters and his parents) Moishe the Beadle, Akiba Drumer, Madame Schächter, Idek, Rabbi Eliahou, and Stein.

Plot: The plot follows the main character Eliezer and these other children who are saved in the "Czech Kindertransport". They were saved from the Nazi persecution back in World War II by a British man named Nicholas Winton. They had boarded a train to take them to England and information came out after the war that most of the children had no parents as they did not survive the occupation of Czechoslovakia. The man rescued 699 children in his hero acts.

My personal response: the book is super sad, but a great message as we get to see into the life of these children and this man or hero names Nicholas Winton. I feel this is a great book to get to know about the experiences that went down during this time period and how courageous this man was for his acts during this really terrible time in history.

Curriculum connections: This book overall relates to history in specific because this book is all about World War II and the life of many children who were able to survive through these circumstances. Due to this story being a true story it's a very powerful book that would be great to include in history/ reading curriculum.

Main Characters: Cece, Cece's family, Mindy, many other characters that play a minor role of being her friend.

Summary: The book is all about the main character Cece and how she found out at a young age that she was deaf. It goes into her experience dealing with it and how this made her feel very self-conscious for a long time due to feeling different. She talks about struggles such as how she had a hard time finding friends that were a good fit and didn't treat her differently because she wore a hearing aid. (For school she gets the phonic ear)

My personal response: The book gives a lot of insight on how it's hard to be different from your classmates. She goes to talk about having a hard time making friends which I feel can be very relatable for many students and I think it's a good representation of diversity and equity in books.

Curriculum connections: we can connect this to all curriculum because it's important to understand the struggles of someone who may be deaf but how we should also handle it. We shouldn't make them feel different and we should say we "will just turn something up for them" because it doesn't help.

Main characters: Merci, Raul (her brother), Lolo (her grandfather, Alicia (best friend)

Summary: The book is all about the main character Merici Suarez, who goes through all these life experiences. She’s a part of a Cuban- American household and when starting 7th grade she faces some challenges. For example, she faces school drama, challenges with family (her grandfather), and wanting to fit in at school. It goes on to talk about how these life experiences influence her and how her family issues take a toll on the family dynamic overall. But as it goes about, she learns how to be responsible, how to handle change in her life, and how to persevere, even when things get hard. It gives a good message to all young people out there about how even if things are hard, they can get better in the end. 

My personal response: I feel it's a good representation of how to deal with friendship, loss and potential issues as it gives lots of experience dealing with that. I think it would be a very good book to share with students so they can see there not alone in their experiences.

Curriculum connections: This once again can be associated across all curriculums because it can be beneficial in all areas due to the life lessons it can help teach.

Main character: Lowry

Summary: The book follows the events that Lois Lowry went through as a kid. It's staged in the setting of World War 2 specifically the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the after math of dropping bombs on Japan. (the doo little raid). Lowry talks about how her father was an Army dentist, so they moved around a lot, but she was born in Hawaii. She talks about how they saw the USS Arizona get destroyed in the fatal and tragic bombing by the Empire of Japan. She talks about the thousands of men who had perished on December 7th, of 1941. Lowry then got moved to Tokyo Japan where her father was now stationed in the city. She got to see all the victims of the atomic bomb and see the effects that it caused on the city/ people in it. Her poem really goes in to healing and forgiveness as said, "we could not be friends... not yet, until the clouds disappeared and cleared". It was going to take time to heal and mend a relationship between these two countries before they could be "friends again". 

Personal connection: The author really shows the effects of war on everyone, and she shows the importance of understanding/ knowing history. She shows the importance of forgiveness and taking time to heal in order for friendship to coincide. 

Curriculum connections: This could be a really good book to use in history lessons to help provide a personal voice on the experiences of World War two.

Main Characters: Pencils who go on strike, and the students who abuse their pencils

Summary: The book is all about the pencils who go on strike because they don't feel respected or valued by the students. The book is all about taking care of your school supplies and learning all about why they are so important to us overall. It teaches young students what they should and shouldn't do to their pencils.

My personal connection: I feel this book is good for really young grades or readers to help inform them about how we should use our materials. Finding an importance in the way we act and treat our writing material is important to teach kids because if not they just get broken, lost, or sharpened until their way too small to use.

Main characters: Spot, (the two children who the spot explains this word to).

Summary: The book is all about learning to respect people, places and things. It follows this character called spot who is telling these two little kids all about how they can be respectful to their school supplies, there school, house, and so many other places/ things. The spot tells them the purpose of being respectful and making everyone feel comfortable.

Personal connection: I feel that this book is really good example for your upper elementary school students. I feel it touches upon a very important subject that can be very beneficial for students to understand as they go through school/ learn more about how to be a good person/ citizen. I also feel like the term respect gets through around a lot to students starting at a very young age. I don't think the word really hits home till you fully understand what it means to be respectful and how you can act respectfully to people/ places/ and things.

Curriculum connections: This book is very good reminder for all subject areas on how to be respectful and courteous of those around you (great example to show).

it's by Peter H. Reynolds. It was published on September 15th, 2003, and it has 32 pages. The genre is art/fiction, and the theme is about learning to have confidence in yourself and encouraging others to do the same.

Main character: Vashti, her teacher

Summary: The dot is all about how a little girl named Vashti doesn't want to draw. She feels she's not good enough, but her art teacher says to give it her best shot and Vashti ends up drawing a dot on her paper. Then when her teacher came around again, she told her to sign the paper, so she does. Then the next day when she comes to class, she sees her picture of her dot all framed and it encourages her to want to paint and draw man more better-looking dots. They are then all displayed in the school art show. During the art show a little boy comes over to her and say that he wishes he could draw like her. So, Vashti has her draw a line and then tell him to sign it.

Personal response: I feel this is a really great example for students to learn confidence in oneself and to not just say you can't do something. It teaches students to help encourage others as well because once they learn that anything is possible, they want to share that feeling with others.

Curriculum connections: This can relate to all curriculums across the board. You have to instill confidence in your students to allow them to grow overall (in any and every subject).

Main Characters: Han Gan

Summary: The story is all about a Chinese painter named Han Gan who paints pictures of such realistic/ beautiful horses in the time of the Tang dynasty. It specifically goes into a magical painting of a horse that Han Gan painted and how it touched the lives of anyone who saw this painting. It shows the importance of art and how that has a great influence on society overall. (It shows creativity and imagination front he painter and those who witnessed it could see that) 

Personal response: I feel this was a good representation of different cultures. I feel it does a good job of being authentic and representing the Chinese culture in a particular way. (This could be a good book to have more diversity within your literature)

Curriculum connections: This can be beneficial to show the importance of art to students and how that can influence culture all around.

Personal response: I really connected to this story because as a kid I used to hear stories about my great grandmother and her time in a Japanese internment camp in California. I feel like this book really connected to the idea of preserving through hard times.

Personal/ academic values: it teaches students about other cultures and things that people went through. It also shows the value of hope, perseverance, and adaptability. In terms of academic values, it could be a good instructional book for students especially when learning about WW II, in specific Pearl harbor and its aftermath. Getting to hear first-hand experience of Japanese American's is super important, and it would be very beneficial to include history instruction.

Description of my drawling: I drew an image of a fence/ internment camp because that's where they were taken. I also drew an image of a baseball field as they used that as their cope for the situation they were in. They found love and hope in the game of baseball. Lastly, I added in the derogatory term "japs" that was used to refer to Japanese during WW II.

Effectiveness of the activity: I think this would be a really beneficial activity for students because they get to represent what they read through drawings. It also helps students get creative with there way of representing the knowledge they learned about.

Main characters: A young child and his family

Summary: In the story it goes to a young boy who was taken from his family in order to attend a school. It goes on talking about the feeling that this child went through such as sadness, fear, love, and loss. It also talks about what the father felt in this time such as sadness but also hope for his child's future. Then it goes into their reconnection after the boy comes back to their home community and the feeling they went through during that process.

My personal connection: I think this is a good book to include in the classroom just because it shows people who have had an experience of having to be away form family. It also shows that other children feel these emotions of love, loss, confusion, grief, and more. (this can be really empowering for many kids to see that there are characters who could feel the way they do).

Curriculum connections: This could really be good for all aspects of school just because it teaches emotions and how normal it is to feel a way.

Main characters: Mina, her mother (Mama).

Summary: This book went through experiences where Mina was ungrateful for what she got or had such as getting a green bracelet rather than a pink one or Sarah's house being much bigger than hers and how she has her own bedroom and Mina didn't. Mina compared her life to her friends and talked about all of what they had and how she felt it wasn't fair. Until one day her mom made a gratitude jar to put down all the good things in her life and Mina tried to think of good things in her life. When she came up with some, she realized all that she had and how grateful she was.

My personal connection: I feel this is a really good book for young students to teach them gratitude and why we shouldn't compare our lives because we all have good stuff in our own ways.

Curriculum connections: once again this can be good for all curriculums or subjects because this idea of being grateful is a really good life lesson especially for young students who really compare what they have or get.

"The Prince and The Dressmaker"

• Your personal responses (connections, thoughts, questions) to the story.

I feel it was a very interesting book it took a lot of turns that I didn't entirely expect. I will say I feel it shows an emphasis on acceptance and what being a real loyal friend really is because throughout France's learns how to accept Prince Sebastion and she learns how to be a loyal friend and not let the dress making control where or what she does.

• Your journey map and a description of your work 

So, my journey map is on Frances who was the dressmaker. I started off by drawling France because that's where it was to take place and then from there, I went right into her making dresses. Then I talked about how Prince Sebastion or lady Crystallia comes into play. She creates dresses for a mysterious client until she finds out who it is and then she them see at a beauty pageant. From there a character Peter trippley comes and wants to display them in his department store so he has them so to a ballet show and then ultimately decides to put them in his fashion show. As that happens Frances is offered a job and leaves Sebastion's employment but in doing so she realizes how bad she feels so she comes back and gives him her new designs. So, she realizes how important her friendship is with Sebastion. That was the events that I depicted in Frances's journey map.

• Personal/academic values of the book and effectiveness of the journey map to students 

I feel journey maps can be a great thing for comprehension or even finding out more on a particular character. It makes you home in or focus on event that occurred and changed a character's course. I think this book is a good book to show acceptance and loyalty to the people around you.

Main characters: Trixie, Goblins, Jack Frost, Rachel, and Kristy.

Summary: The story is all about Rachel and Kristy and them helping Trixie's the Halloween fairy save the fun and excitement of Halloween before jack frost ruins it. They go on adventures to track down the stolen objects that are needed and kept with the fairy to ensure the magic of Halloween. The girls have to learn to work together and believe in the magic of Halloween in order to restore the magic.

My personal response: I really like these books especially as a kid. So, it was cool to see all the different ones they have. It's also a good option to have because it's a fantasy books which children are more opted to want to read especially when they are younger cause they can use their imagination while reading. I also want to say it has a good message of teamwork and friendship that I feel is very important for young students to learn.

Curriculum connection: I feel this has a good message so it can be taught in really any subject. For example, in PE we have to learn teamwork in order to win a game or in the classroom we need teamwork when we do our group projects or even to keep the room clean.

• Your personal response to the story (connections, thoughts, questions) 

I feel this was a really good book/ representation for a big idea or the feeling of grief. I think this could be a very good book for middle aged student's because it can help them see others who may be going through the same things they are or feeling that they have felt before. I would say I can definitely feel the way the character did because I feel in times like death something when there are things that are a little more unexplainable, we want to search for a reason to make it feel more logical to our brains. Which is essentially what the character in the book did as well.

The heart map I created was for Suzy Swanson and I added in symbols such as aquariums, money, and her love for science/reading. I added these items to her heart map because it helps show her values/ what her beliefs were overall. It also helped represent how she felt in the story and or what she did/ how she delt with grief.

Main characters: Nikki Maxwell, Chloe, Zoey, Mackenzie, and Brandon

Summary: The book is all about and written from Nikki's point of view as its written like a diary. In this particular book in the series, she becomes her schools new party planner but all the excitement behind that dies down when she realizes that she has to compete against her rivel Mackenzie who is out to sabotage her any way she can. Throughout Nikki realizes how important and responsible you have to be to plan a party but also how important her friends are for helping her get through all the drama.

My personal response: I really like the book because It's similar to diary of a wimpy kid where it has pictures and graphics but is also very entertaining as it has many books in the series. I also feel that you can learn a lot from the books such as this one touched up on responsibility and how important good friendships are.

Curriculum connection: I feel this book can be pretty versatile I think it would be a very good AR book to read though so more so geared toward silent reading time or independent reading.

Main characters: Humphrey, students of room 26, Mrs. Brisbane.

Summary: The book follows a hamster named Humphrey who is a class pet in room 26. The story follows his life and how he sees the world. He talks about how at first, he thought that at first Mrs. Brisbane seemed strict, but he then realizes how kind she is. Humphrey likes to help the students in their own special way so he can show his kindness. Humphrey wants to make the students in room 26 grow confidence and develop friendships so he does what he can in the classroom to make it happen.

My Personal Connections: I feel this book is super cute and it's a great way to show friendship and building each other up overall. I definitely think this would be a great book for 2nd- 5ht grade students to learn about friendship and the act of kindness.

Curriculum connections: Overall I would say that this book really just teaches a good theme so it can be associated in any curriculum, but I would say reading time or silent reading is when this would be a part of the curriculum.

Main character: Greg, Rowley, Rodrick, and Gregs mom and dad.

Summary: The book is all about Greg who is on summer vacation. It goes into what his expectations are verses what actually happens during the summer. It goes through may things Greg tires to do to have a good summer for example going to the county club with his friend but after they rack up a big bill, they become kicked out. Greg then goes through many challenges with his dad and his best friend. Overall, Greg goes through many challenges and embarrasses himself a lot but in the end, he manages to turn things around and has a good rest of the summer.

My personal connection: I feel that this is a good middle-aged book that would be good for 5-7th grade students. I feel it takes a very funny relatable outlook on situations that may happen which I feel can be good for students overall.

Curriculum connections: Overall I would say this can fit very well in silent reading time or in AR testing.

Main character: Elgin Baylor

Summary: The book is all about Elgin Baylor who was an NBA hall of famer who changed the game of basketball while also supporting civil rights movements. It goes through her experience in facing racism and how she found freedom by playing basketball. Basketball was an outlet for her especially when she was young. It also talks about how he decided not to play in a game due to him and his black teammates not being able to stay in a hotel because they wanted to segregate them due to their color.

My response: Overall I think that the book was a very good book to show the effects of segregation, but also what it does to people. I feel that it also is a good representation of persevering even when people are against you. As well as keep standing up for what you believe in even if there are consequences.

This would be a good book to include in a history section talking about the effects of the civil war and the life after.

Mian characters: all the monsters

Summary: the book is all about a group of monsters who make cupcakes and how they get to be super unique and design them however they would like to. It really focuses on how to be creative and why creativity is so important overall.

My response: I feel this book was a good representation of why creativity is important which I think is very important amongst kids especially. I also feel this book does a good job at showing why it's important to share and work together.

I feel this could be a great book especially for your littles when we are learning all about being creative/ unique and learning how to share and be a good friend.

Main characters: Hope (fairy), Rachel Walker, Kristy Tate, and Jack frost/ his goblins.

Summary: The book is all about Rachel and Kristy who are best friends, and they stumble across Hope who is the happiness fairy. She needs their help in order to get back her magic Tiara that Jack Frost stole from her. She needs to get it back because she has to spread happiness on the land again. Through the process they learn to work together and solve problems in order to get back her magic tiara.

My personal response: I feel this book is a very good fantasy book for kids, but I also think that it is a great representation for problem solving and even the ability to work together. which is super important to learn at a young age.

Personal response to the book:

I feel the book had some very powerful themes overall as we get to see into the life of this young girl and how her experience in school was harsh. She dealt with so much including humiliation and a stripping of her own identity/ culture. I feel it really puts into perspective how important culture is within classrooms. It something that needs to be respected and cherished because you never know the effects that it can have on a student.

Effectiveness: Overall, I would say that this assignment would be very beneficial for students as it can really help them analyze a character for internal and external factors that may change the course of their life or a story in general. This can be a great comprehension strategy as well as this can be a tool for them to look back on when reading a story.

Main characters: Camilla Cream

Summary: The book is all about Camilla who is a little girl what loves lima beans, but she fears to eat them because she wants to fit in with everyone else. She wonders what others will think if she does. But then on her first day of school she ended up getting a weird case of stripes. She begins to worry more about what people will think about her. the doctor tries everything to fix it, but nothing works until she decided to be true to herself and eat the food she likes (lima beans). Camilla's strange case of stripes them goes away and she learn to be herself.

My Response: I feel that this is a great book to demonstrate self-acceptance and an understanding that we should all accept each other and what we like. This shows us how unique we all are and how we shouldn't hide that for acceptance of others.

Main characters: The mouse and the boy

Summary: The book is all about a boy who gives a mouse a cookie and how it set of this chain reaction of things that the mouse needs because he got the cookie. At the end of the book, it ties it all together with a full circle ending of the mouse wanting another cookie.

My Response: I feel this book is a good example of cause-and-effect relationships. So, it can be a great curriculum connection. I also feel that it's a good way to show a full circle ending of how the book can start how it ends.

I also enjoy how the book is very lighthearted and fun as we get to see all the requests the mouse has after he gets a cookie. (This was also a childhood favorite for me so I feel it would be great to share)

Main characters: Ned

Summary: The story follows the main character Ned and it's all about his fortunate and unfortunate circumstances. It follows his adventures of how every time something goes right then something goes terribly wrong, but his positive mindset/ situation helps him get out of the unfortunate situations.

My personal response: Overall I would say that this book is a very good book to help students get involved in a lesson or book to where they can predict what may happen based on the story cause every page follows the same trend of something good and then something bad. (It gets students brainstorming and thinking critically as they would when they answer questions about the book)

Main characters: Little critter, His family

Summary: The book is all about the main character Little Critter who is learning how to do things all on his own. It goes into his excitement about getting to learn all about responsibility. For example, he learns to get dressed on his own, make breakfast and even take care of his cat.

My Personal Response: I feel this is a great book to share with your younger grades (pre-K to kindergarten would be great grades for this book). This is such a good book to show independence and how we can learn to do everyday activities in a responsible and independent way.

Main characters: The sheep and the car the jeep.

Summary: The book is all about a group of sheep who go on an adventure in a jeep. As they drive along on the adventure, they manage to run into issues such as crashing, going through mud, or even flipping the car. Overall, the book is meant to have a funny tone and it's a great rhyming scheme that can help students identify vowel teams and or rhyming words.

My Personal Response: This book is a great book for students especially if you are working on the pattern "ee". Working on phonics and using this as a mentor text would be great especially when working on vowel teams. (Using this book as a mentor text could be great because we can use it to show examples of the pattern. It can also help create a discussion in a fun way)

Main characters: the Lorax, the boy, The Once-ler.

Summary: The book follows the boy who visits the Once-ler who is very greedy and causes harm to the environment in specific the Truffula Trees by cutting them down. It wasn't until the Lorax came and tried to help speak for the trees as he tries to save the land and the trees that are home to many animals all around. In the end the Once-ler realizes he was in the wrong and leaves it up to the boy to plant new seeds so that they can restore the trees they cut down.

My Personal Response: The story ultimately has a good message as it is aiming to protect our environment and save our trees. I feel this can be a great embedded lesson near earth day to teach kids about the importance of keeping our environment clean and healthy. I also feel that the books rhythmic sound can be beneficial for many students as we learn to write poems or even go through rhyming lessons.

Main character: Alexander T. Wolf and the Three little pigs.

Summary: The book follows the character Alexander T. Wolf who tells his story of what happened with the three little pigs. The wolf claims that he wasn't trying to blow the 3 little pigs houses down rather he just had a bad cold, and he was just looking to borrow a cup of sugar for his granny's birthday cake. But because of his cold when he sneezed, he accidentally blew the houses down.

My Personal response: I feel this can be a good book to connect curriculum because you can incorporate this reading into history when we learn how there are many different perspectives or sides to the way history is told. I also feel it can be good to show bias and how that can affect the story that is being told. (very humorous tale that would be fun to in cooperate in a lesson or just for a reading time)

Main characters: Avocado, Tomato, and other fruits and veggies that he meets.

Summary: The book follows the main character Avocado who gets thrown off with himself when he hears a boy ask if he is a fruit or a veggie. Avocado then becomes unsure of the answer, so he starts to ask all those around him such as tomato and other fruits and veggies. Each time Avocado asks someone he gets more confused. He feels down and wants to know where he belongs. At the end of the story Avocado finally realizes that it doesn't matter if you fit into a label as long as you are true to yourself and embrace your unique qualities.

My Personal Response: I feel that this book is a very cute way to bring in fruits and veggies so you could put this into a health lesson on nutrition. I also feel that this book could be good to bring in this idea of being unique and accepting yourself because everyone belongs regardless of labels.

Main characters: Dinosaurs and the parents

Summary: The book is all about dinosaurs and their goodnight routine. The dinos take on a childlike role as they don't want to go to bed and how they refuse to put their toys away or even delay saying goodnight to their parents. But eventually they listen to their parents and start to get to bed. (The book just takes a funny tone as it goes through the challenges of bedtime.

My Personal Reflection: I feel this book can be a very good book for parents as they are trying to put their kids to sleep because it unintentionally teaches a lesson of, we want to be like the dinosaurs and go to bed. I feel this book can be very beneficial for young students.

Main characters: Trixie, her dad, mom, and Knuffle bunny.

Summary: The book is all about the main character Trixie and her stuffed animal Knuffle bunny. Her and her dad end up going on a trip to the laundromat and Trixie brings along her stuffed bunny. By the time they are ready to leave they pack up all their items and begin to walk back home. But then the unexpected happens Trixie realizes that she forgot her stuffed animal. Trixie becomes very frustrated and can't begin to speak words, so she speaks in gibberish. By the time her dad finds out they head back to the laundromat and find her lost bunny. Trixie then realizes how important and careful she has to be with her prized possession.

My Personal Response: I feel this book goes to show that staying calm and going back to where you were to find something is the best plan rather than stressing out. It also shoes the importance of keeping your possessions safe and cared for. (just a cute book that can have a good relatable message for many kids who have ever lost and found something)

Main Characters: Corduroy and Lisa

Summary: The book is all about the main character Corduroy who is a little teddy bear that lives in a department store. He then encounters Lisa who wants to buy him, but she notices that he is missing a button on his overalls. Lisa's mother tells her she can't afford the bear, and this makes Corduroy very sad and disappointed because he feels no one will want him because of his missing button. Corduroy then decided that he is going to go find a button to fix himself and make him more presentable, but he is unsuccessful and is just disappointed in himself. But the unthinkable happens Lisa comes back and buys him from the store with her saved money. She even fixes the button on Corduroy's overalls and now he feels that he finally belongs.

My Personal Response: I feel this is a very cute book for young students in showing that everyone belongs and is loved no matter if we have "flaws". We are all unique and special regardless of what others think. (This is a great book for showing acceptance and belonging)

Main characters: Zane and the Zombies

Summary: The book is all about the main character Zane who loves to eat veggies. He then gets visited by the zombies who Zane tries to convince to eat veggies rather than brains. He tells them how they are healthier and better tasting. Zane goes through a creative moment of making a bunch of different veggies dishes using his imagination. At first the Zombies are skeptical, but then they realize that veggies are fun and delicious overall.

My Personal Response: I feel that this book is very good to add in more curriculum in health as this book could be good in a nutrition lesson. It's great for showing all the different ways we can make veggies and how good then can be. It shows that there is something for everyone. This is just a fun lighthearted way to talk about healthy eating with your students.

Main Characters: Chicken little, Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, Foxy Loxy, and Goosy Loosy.

Summary: The book followed the main character Chicken Little who has an acorn hit her head while standing around and she thinks that the sky is falling. She begins to tell everyone in the town and spread this idea that the sky is falling. She convinced all of her friends and everyone began to panic. They all begin questioning what is going on and then Foxy ultimately ends there questioning. The books ends and shows the idea of herd mentality and not just believing what everyone says.

My Personal Connections: Overall, I think this book is a good representation, and it could be used in many lessons. One that I thought of was looking for credible sources. We can see that Chicken little spreading false information makes his claims not credible, so I feel that showing that and understanding that we don't want to be a part of the herd mentality group is important.

Main characters: Brother and sister bear, Mama and Papa bear.

Summary: The book is all about lying and how it's wrong. It follows brother and sister bear as they are tempted to lie so that they don't get in trouble for something that they did. For example, brother bear breaking the neighbors window when he was playing baseball. The book really aims to teach about the importance of telling the truth and how there are consequences to lying that can create issues in the future.

My Personal Connection: I feel that this book can be beneficial for students as we learn all about telling the truth and how that is more important than worrying about getting in trouble because truth is rewarded more than lying ever will be. Lastly it teaches students about negative consequences that can occur when we lie.

Main Characters: Llama Llama, Nelly Gnu, and Mama Llama.

Summary: The book is all about learning to share so we focus on Llama Lama who finds a new friend and they come over to play. Llama Llama is skeptical as he is not excited to share his toys with his new friend. Because he didn't want to share one of his fuzzy toys it pays the price and gets torn. Mama Llama then guides Llama Llama in how to share so that mishaps like this don't happen. at the end of the story Llama Llama learns to share and learns that friendship is more important than keeping things to ourselves.

My Personal reflection: Once again I feel this would be a great book for little as we learn to share our toys/ materials in class. I feel this can be a very cute way and we can refer to it when we have mishaps in the classroom.

Main characters: Nate Wright

Summary: The book is told by Nate Wright who is the main character of the book. The book is all about Nates idea to bring back the school newspaper, but he has to compete in order to get it back. So, they join a comic book strip contest where they have to compete against their rival school. Ultimately the team learns to work together and persevere through rough times as they try to beat their rivals and win the contest allowing them to create the next school newspaper.

My Personal Reflection: This can be a good book for older students. This was actually a book that we used when I was tutoring, and it is very helpful because it's moving them into chapter books but is also still including those pictures that can help with recalling main ideas or just comprehension in general. (very similar to Diary of a Wimpy Kid in terms of how it is set up)

Main Characters: Little bear and Daddy bear.

Summary: Little bear is full of energy, but he hasn't quite learned what manners are or what polite words are such as please and thank you. Throughout the day little bear goes through different situation that he hasn't been through before such as asking for things, needing help, or even playing with his friends. His dad aims to teach him all about being polite and saying please and thank you which little bear does by the end of the book.

My Personal Response: I feel this book is another great one for littles because it's an important life skill to learn to be respectful and polite, so saying please and thank you when you ask for help, or someone does something for you. I feel that this can be a good way to implement a lesson to teach students all about manners.

Main Characters: Ramon and his older brother

Summary: The book is all about the main character Ramon who loves to draw but be is very hard on his own work as he starts to get frustrated that his drawings don't turn out how he wants it to. But Ramon's older brother aims to show him that it doesn't need to be perfect, and he wants him to appreciate the "ish" of his drawings. In the end Ramon learns to love his drawings even if they may not be perfect.

My Personal Response: This book is by the same author as "The Dot" and I feel that it is another great book to teach a good lesson that we don't need everything to be perfect. I feel that this can be great for students who feel the need to be perfect because this idea of perfect can lead to stress or even students not doing things out of worry of it not being perfect. (Creating a classroom setting where students feel they can be themselves and be wrong is ultimately what we want to do so this would be a great book to represent that).

Main characters: Harold

Summary: This book is all about the main character Harold who uses a purple crayon to create his very own world. He starts off small by drawing lines that transform into an adventure. Harold then begins to draw more elaborate pictures, drawing anything he needs such as trees, animals, and even paths. Harold learns to be creative in what he draws and learns to make his way through obstacles by problem solving as he goes through.

My Personal Response: I would say that this book is very creative and a fun read for students. I also think that it can be a good representation of problem solving and a learning to be creative overall. (good easy read)

Main Characters: Franklin, his parents/ friends, and the community members

Summary: The book is all about Franklin who has to draw a picture of what he likes best about his neighborhood for a school assignment. So, he decides to walk around his community to figure it out. He visits all the places he knows like the pond, library, and even the park. Franklin then realizes that it's not about what the community has but the people that are within it that make it meaningful.

My Personal reflection: Overall this book shows how an appreciation for community is important because a community is what we want our classroom to feel like. I also like that it helps represent diversity because we have many different people that are involved in a community.

Main Characters: Charlie Brown, Linus van Pelt, Sally Brown, Snoopy, and Lucy van Pelt.

Summary: The book is all about Charlie Brown and his friends who are looking to throw a Halloween party and then go trick or treating. But Charlie Brown struggles to come up with a costume and he feels left out as everyone else gets to have fun at the Halloween party. All while that is happening Linus decides that rather than go trick or treating that he would sit in the pumpkin patch and wait for the "great pumpkin" and he convinces Sally to as well. So, they sit there all night in great spirts waiting for the great pumpkin, but when the night is winding down to the end, they realize that the great pumpkin isn't coming. They end up feeling very disappointed.

My Personal Reflection: I feel this book is very cute and is a great Halloween book to read to your students for some holiday fun.

Main Characters: The young boy

Summary: The book is all about the young boy who forgets to wash his hands and ends up spread germs that day. As he interacts with people or when he touches objects they start to multiple on his hands causing chaotic events. This book really aims to show the importance of washing our hands and how if we don't, we can spread germs easier.

My Personal Reflection: This book would be great to cross curriculum and tie in a health lesson on how to wash hands and why it is so important. (Great book for young students as we learn to wash our hands and how that can keep us from getting sick)

Main Characters: Teeny Tiny Bunny

Summary: The book is all about the main character Teeny Tiny Bunny who decided to plant vegetable seeds in a garden. But when those seeds become veggies the teen tiny bunny realizes that there may be some challenges gathering the veggies due to being so small. But the bunny does not let that discourage her so she finds a way to fill her basket will perfect sized carrots.

My Personal Response: Good holiday book to share during Easter time. It is also a good representation/ reminder that it doesn't matter your size you are strong and great just the way you are.

Main Characters: Little Comet

Summary: The book follows the main character the Little Comet as it races through, the solar system. The book goes into how the comet travels past planets or even stars throughout space. Overall, the book is very informative of the comets path and as it touches upon astronomical concepts or words that students can learn through this read.

My Personal Reflection: This book is a good book to cross curriculum and add to science lessons as you go over these words.

Main Characters: Sprout

Summary: The book follows the main character Sprout who dreams of growing in the perfect place because she feels limited in her current environment as she only has two leaves. But along with moving environments she encounters many different challenges in the new environments. In the end Sprout finds out that growing isn't just guaranteed by moving environments but more so about understanding herself and learning patience.

My Personal Response: This book is a good book to add to science curriculum as well as we can see how it can connect. It goes through the planet cycle and how growth is not just in the environment but also inside as it requires patience and understanding of other factors.

Main Characters: the worm, his dad/ sister, spider, and the fly.

Summary: The book is narrated by the main character the worm in the way of a diary. He talks about everyday activities such as making tunnels, eating dirt, or even avoiding getting stepped on by humans. The worm talks about his experiences with his friends and family as well. His diary just tells the story of random little events/ activities that he does in a day.

My Personal Reflection: The book is a good book for word identification. We actually used this book in one of my classes. Overall, I would say this is just a funny and cute book for kids to read especially during silent reading time or reading circle time.
