Petitions are mentioned on page 480-481 of Oxford. 

Today we are going to all contribute to a list of ideas on what things we could petition about. Think of something that you don’t support or that you think needs support and fill in the table below during our lesson. I will have it open on my screen so I can see your great ideas coming through.

6. Select each petition topics (from the class list) and rank them according to our opinion by rating a 1 - 5 stars like them at the bottom of the post. 

7. Then in a NEW post. Add your name and then explain in 1 paragraph the importance of being able to protest and have freedom of speech? Provide an example if possible. 

Some Ideas: A tax on sugary drinks, limit to amount we pay on phone bills, all educational apps should be free, banning of TikTok or Fortnite, banning of vaping, reduction of school hours, a compulsory nap/rest period at school, 4 day work week for adults. TRY TO THINK OF YOUR OWN.   

My petition topic is Banning Animal Testing 

I would send this petition to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) so they can use it to support their quest to stop it. They could then raise it with the House of Representatives.

People should sign this petition to protect animals from being mistreated and experimented on. 

I would get signatures by creating an online petition and sending it via my social media and email. 

I hope the outcome will be that new ways of testing could be found without having to use/hurt animals. 

I would send the petition to the education department so they can discuss with all the schools principles and the governments about their opinion. Once they've raised it with other schools they can come to a decision about whether or not they'll go through with it or not.

People could sign this petition to reduce the amount of tiring school hours and make our hard days at school shorter. This would be affective so that kids stay focused during the days that they are at school for and be properly reset in the morning.

I would get people to sign the petition every year by creating an online petition so that children and adults can have their intake on the petition instead of just getting one age groups opinion. I hope the outcome will be to reduce school hours as I believe school hours should be reduced. The reason I would make the petition yearly is so if there is any changed regarding students grades dropping and they need to go back to regular hours they can do so depending on how reducing school hours is affecting peoples ability to learn.

I would send this petition to the local government, the white horse council, this is because they are meant to make rules for animals, so they should also be taking care of animals who don't have homes

People should sign the partition because every year, animal shelters end up putting down animals because they don't get enough money from the government or people who want to get pets, most people end up buying pets from pet shops not shelters, meaning the animals who have no home end up being put down because there isn't enough food or people to care for them, so the shelters have to put them out of their misery.

I would get signatures by making posts across different local group chats, and going around to local sporting clubs, and any other type of club, another way i could get people to sign the petition is by going to popular restaurants, large companies and schools to get them to sign it.

I hope the outcome will be no animal shelters will have to put down anymore pets, and more people (the ones who sign the petition) will adopt pets from animal shelters.

I would send this petition to the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) so they can help in the House of Representatives. When it is discussed at House of Parliaments, it can be changed.

Animals get treated so badly. They get tested to likely cause them pain. They suffer through a lot.

I would send this petition to CEOs, HR managers, and industry influencers who can create job opportunities so yhey can use it to send it to Organizations responsible for job placement, training, and support. Organizations could then raise it with the House of Representatives, who can influence policy decisions.

People should sign this petition to pressure policymakers to prioritize job creation, and economic growth so there are minimum people who is caused with financial strain.

I would get signatures by creating an online petition and sending it via my social media and email. I would also set up booths at community gatherings, markets, and public spaces.

I hope the outcome will make lawmakers to implement effective employment policies and create opportunities and resources for those who are unemployed.

I would send this petition to the Truth Initiative so that it can help them take more action on stopping vaping. Then they could bring it to the Australian health department (as vaping is not safe for your health).

People should sign this petition because vaping can seriously impact and damage people’s health. There is increasing evidence that vaping is bad for your lungs as people have developed respiratory diseases or EVALI (E-cigarette, or Vaping product, use Associated Lung Injury) from vapes. There has been 68 reported deaths from EVALI, with 15% of them being under the age of 18, and as of February of 2020, over 2,500 people her hospitalized because of it.

I would get signatures by creating online posts about the dangers on vaping and EVALI, and share it across social media, as if I want this to reach people quickly, then posts on social media tend to spread quickly.

I hope the outcome of this results in vaping being banned, so that less people get ill from e-smoking, and that people are healthier.
