Impact of Religion and Education from After Emancipation till now.

Religion and Education were used as a form of controlling the freed slaves after emancipation. The schools were linked with churches therefor if a freed slaved wished to be educated he/she would also have to be converted from his/her religion to Christianity.

By teaching the freed slaves about European History , Literature and Geography they created a black man with a "white man's mind" this resulted in cultural erasure.

In present day society even though there are Hindu and Islamic based schools many Hindus and Muslims prefer to send their children to Christian based schools as these schools are perceived to be better. This has also impacted upon the choice of university by a student. as the 'white man's university" is seen as superior to the local universities. Because of this many of our intelligent people leave our country and add their intelligence to the Colonizers countries.

Christian based festivals such as Christmas are celebrated by almost every religion however the majority of Christians only take part in their own festivals and none by any other religions. This results in Christian based festivals gaining a lot of attention by everyone and can lead to cultural erasure of some people of other religions.

Because many of the Christian based schools are seen as inferior to other schools, many people convert their children to Christianity in order to increase their chances of getting into these schools. By doing this it will decrease the amount of people practicing another religion than Christianity.

Because the Christianity is practiced by such a large amount of the population it has made it seem as it is the superior religion and causes some people to convert from their religion to it.

Many of schools whether they may be Christian based or not, they use many none local books to teach literature. And this has given us the idea that these none local authors are better than our local authors.
