Mores are norms that are backed by morals and are usually supposed to be followed by everyone in a culture. Laws are norms that formally defined and enforced by officials.

LGBT Culture is very similar to our everyday culture, thought they seemed to be more sensitive to how others are treated. For instance, this community is seemingly very accepting of others no matter what they identify as, and internal to be kind to others no matter what.

Most of the mores and folkways that I can see are also focused on respecting others no matter how diverse or different they maybe while sharing the common belief that “we’re all the same on the inside.” But probably the most identifiable folkway is being open about your sexuality and who you’re with, which wasn’t a conversation the main stream was willing to have at this time.

Another common belief is that the LGBT and all the genders and sexualites that it entales should be accpected, respected, and considered just as much as heterosexual and cisgendered is in the mainstream as well as having equal rights and opportunities.

Values are broad ideas that what society provides to be good and favorable. Beliefs are ideas about your reality whether these things are true or false.

The Rainbow flag is example of the LGBT material culture. The flag was made for a gay pride march, It was made to represent togetherness and the diversity of every age, race and sexuality within this community as well as how they’re naturally beautiful like a rainbow. The original flag had eight and they all had they all their own unique meanings to the color choices. They then later change it to the now better know six color merely because of how expensive it became to reprint or recreate it later on.

Sanctions are rewards or punishments that are used to inspire conformity. Formal Sanctions are sanctions that are enforced by professionals and laws. Informal sanctions are sanctions that are applied by groups of people.

The LGBT culture has very loose when it comes to rules. Since This culture is about spreading acceptance and goodwill towards those within LGBT and fighting for rights, a taboo would be going against this norm. I think they would most likely be shunned and looked down upon for being such a hateful and spiteful person perhaps. Since you should try to respect all and not just one selective group of people.

A counterculture is a segmented part of society that directly goes against one or the aspects within the mainstream.

I think this would definitely count as a counterculture. They wanted this individuals to hide this part of themselves or pretend as if these people even exist, While the LGBT didn’t want this, they rebelled in a sense to the idea of shunning their sexuality.

Discovery is sharing something that is already known in reality. Invention is combining different aspects in a cultural into something brand new. And finally, Diffusion is when something from a culture is spread from one culture to another, or society to society.

Thanks to this cultures continual efforts throughout the years, Gay marriage was legalized by the supreme court in June 2015, and Same sex-marriage is legal within all 50 states as well as their issues now being more visible and well known to mainstream America. This I think wouldn’t be possible without one part Discovery and Diffusion. Since this culture has existed for quite a long time and fought for equality for so long, I think simply the fact that more Americans became more aware of this culture as well as, sharing this information as if it’s normal helped normalized this culture and it’s struggles to the previously unaware U.S. public. For instance, Stars like Ellen Degeneres coming out and being open to discussions about sexuality and Laverne Cox on gender really helped the public understand these issues or at least a better insight.

Because of very anti- LGBT Attitudes the Mainstream of the American public from before the 1960’s and a bit after, they didn’t have many places to socialize and be themselves in besides Gay bars and clubs.
Even in these perceived safe havens, police would often come to arrest and harass these people and the places they flocked to not only half in part to do with the people, but as well as the fact that most of these bars and clubs didn’t have proper liquor licenses, and that was due in part because the Mafia owned a lot of these bars. And possibly the most famous and well known one was the Stonewall Inn.

Not only did it allow Gay patrons, but it also allowed Lesbians, and Drag Performers as well as anyone questioning their gender or sexuality.

Even with harshness and cheapness that you could imagine come with going to a bar own and run by the Mafia, that didn’t really matter because for once they had a proper place to be themselves for once. This however, unfortunately did not stop the police. On June 28th, 1969 the police came in and stormed the Stonewall Inn and roughly manhandled and arrested 13 patrons and employees of the Inn.
After being kicked out after, a lot of patrons were angrily watching this from outside of the bar, the final straw breaking on the camel's back occurred. A lesbian women was paddywacked and shoved into a police cruiser, shouting to the nearby crowd to do something, this being throwing rocks and other such objects at the police and their cars.
This then lead to violent fights and riots that would last until July 1st and almost lead to Stonewall burning down. The First marches advocating gay rights to the American public not to soon after.
