30 Meter Sprint

the main purpose for doing the 30 meter sprint is to measure the athletes overall sprint speed and is measured on a 30 meter distance. this drill is very easily set up as all you need to do is measure out 30 meters and place down a cone on both sides of the measurement. after that Is done, all you need is a person timing with a stopwatch on the opposite side to where the athlete starts so they can get the most accurate calculation of how long it took the athlete. The equipment list is very straightforward because all you need is a tape measure, 2 cones, a stopwatch and a pen and paper to write down the results then your good to go. An advantage of doing this method is that it is quick and easy to do and can give you a quick idea to whether you have gradually improved the more times you've done it. the disadvantage is that its quite unreliable with the fact that the things you do before the session can effect how you can perform so you will have to ensure that you are doing the same thing before testing the difference.
Advantage
The advantages of the 30 meter sprint is the fact that not much equipment is needed so it is very easy to set up. This makes the test easy to do and means it can be done almost anywhere (with a non-slip surface) making it a very recommended test.
Disadvantage
the disadvantage to this test is the fact an assistant is needed to construct the test. this is because you will need a partner who can stop the timer as soon as you pass the line and if the athlete has to do it themselves then it will lower the work rate on trying to get the quickest time because they will be too focused on sorting the timer out.

Sit and Reach

What is the purpose and what does it measure?
The sit and reach is a test of the athletes flexibility in the hamstrings and low half of the back. This will also show how tight the hamstrings are when comparing to previous times taking the test
How do you set up and run the test?
The test is very simple to set up, all you need to do is sit down with both legs straight out with the measurement box resting on the feet flat pointing up. The athlete will then lean their body forward As far as they can and the way to measure the distance is see where the furthest place is where they can hold their hands in the same spot for a couple seconds.
Equipment?
All that is needed is the measurement box and a piece of paper to record the results.
Cost?
If the measurement box is already available then it is free but if the box is needed to purchase then the price can vary from £90 to £100
Skills needed to carry out the test?
The only skills needed is the ability to keep the body straight to ensure the results are as accurate as they can be. The athlete also needs to ensure they do not have extremely tight hamstrings or a bad lower back because this test will be unsuccessful.
What practical value does the test have?
This test does not have a very high practical value because it does not require a wide range of movement because the test is done whilst the athlete is static and only a lean forward is required.
Advantages
the advantages of this test are the fact that there is very minimal equipment needed. this is beneficial because once again, it can be used almost everywhere and is quick and easy to do and is very reliable for the flexibility results and can give very precise answers.
Disadvantage
a disadvantage for this test is that a certain piece of specialist equipment is required and despite the fact that there is very low equipment required, the measurement box is not often available in most places. this results in having to buy one and at the price of around £90-£100, it is not the cheapest way to do.

What does it measure?
This test measures the level of strength the athlete has in the upper body whilst holding up their body weight
How do you set up and run the test?
All that is needed is the athlete needs to either start a timer or have someone time them for a minute and they need to do as many press ups as they can in the space of a minute and the way to find the result is comparing it to how many they achieved the previous times they took part.
Equipment?
A stop watch is all that is needed to time the minute session that the athlete is taking part in for the test.
Cost?
There is no price for this test as no equipment is needed to do press ups.
Skills needed to carry out the test?
All the athlete needs to be able to do is hold their body weight for over 1 minute when working their upper body.
What practical value does the test have?
This test has a reasonable practical value because the athlete is continuously working the body throughout the test and is testing the strength to the maximum ability.
Advantage
an advantage for this test is the fact that only a stopwatch is required to do this test and can be done anywhere with a small bit of space that is out of the way of anyone so it is very easy to set this up test up. also, this test can be done without an assistant so the athlete does not need to wait around on someone to help them.
Disadvantage
A disadvantage of this test is that the athlete could potentially need an assistant as they might lose count and will need to start again otherwise it will be unreliable. so despite the fact it can be done without an assistant, it is always recommended to do it with one to avoid any unreliable results.

Standing broad jump

What is the purpose and what does it measure?
The standing board jump is a test to see an athletes level power from a static position from a jump.
How do you set up and run the test?
The test is set up by marking a line for where the athlete will stand and then from that point, a tape measure is laid out to mark out a distance of up to 5 meters. The athlete will then put their toes on the line and without a run up, will spring there body as far as they can and the spot where they landed is the distance covered from that jump.
Equipment?
A tape measure is required to record the distance covered and also something like a cone etc will be useful mark out where the point is for the athlete to jump from and they will also need something to write down the results on.
Cost?
All that is needed to do the test is a tape measure and that can be purchased for a couple of pounds so this test costs near enough to nothing.
Skills needed to carry out the test?
The only skill needed for this test is the ability to spring the body from a static position. Anything other than that does not stop the athlete from taking part in this test.
What practical value does the test have?
This test does not have a very high practical value because most of the test is from a Static position so the body is not being worked at a high intensity at all.
ADVANTAGE
An advantage of the standing broad jump is that it does not have many pieces of equipment. this is beneficial in many ways because it means that it is easy to set up which will also mean it can be done anywhere due to the fact its so easy to carry around which will make the whole test a quick procedure. due to the lack of equipment needed, this also makes this test extremely affordable for the athlete testing their standing broad jump.
DISADVANTAGE
A disadvantage for the standing broad test is the fact that an assistant is needed for this test. it is important for the athlete to have an assistant because if the athlete does a jump and loses the balance after landing, it is almost impossible to find out where the back of the foot landed. therefore, this will make the test inaccurate or will slow down the time it takes to get the results because the athlete will have to continuously start again.

What is the purpose and what does it measure?
This test examines the level of aerobic endurance the athlete has. And will test the distance the athlete can run in one go of a 12 minute session
How do you set up and run the test?
To start with, a squared court needs to be measured out as this is this area the athlete will be running around. Next, the athlete will pick a corner to start and on the word 'go' they will start running laps around the court as many times as they can in the 12 minutes and once the 12 minutes are over, the Amount of laps completed is the athletes result of the test.
Equipment?
4 cones are required to mark out the court for the athlete to run around and also a stopwatch is needed to time the 12 minutes of which the test will take.
Cost?
This test is completely free to do because they do not need to mark things out themselves to make a court if they do not want to and they can also use whatever timer they have if they do not have access to a stopwatch.
Skills needed to carry out the test?
The athlete will need to have the ability to run continuously for 12 minutes without fatiguing.
What practical value does the test have?
This test has the highest practical value out of tall the tests because the whole body is continuously getting worked at a high intensity and is the easiest way to find out wether any improvement has been accomplished.
Advantage
An advantage of this test is also the lack of equipment needed. also, the pieces of equipment needed are common pieces of sport equipment so if it is being done at a sports club then things like cones, stopwatch and measuring equipment are all available for the athlete.
Disadvantage
A disadvantage of this test is the required space needed for the test. due to the fact it is a measured run, the distance run is very important for the results so a larger amount of space is needed and will need to be specific if the test was to be done again because the distance will need to be spot on so the results are 100% fair.

Grip strength

What is the purpose and what does it measure?
This will test the strength in the athletes whole arm region especially the hands and wrists.
How do you set up and run the test?
All you need is a hand dynamometer that is adjusted to the hand size of the athlete. They will then grip as hard as they can continuously until the hand struggles to push the dynamometer fully down. The idea is to see how easy it is for the athlete to press down on the dynamometer and how long they can do that for.
Equipment?
All that is needed for this test is a hand dynamometer and the athlete to work on it.
Cost?
The hand dynamometer will cost an average of around £15
Skills needed to carry out the test?
All that is needed is for the athlete to be able to squeeze the dynamometer down fully so the test is done properly for the best results.
What practical value does the test have?
This test lacks any practical value because not only is it done statically but it also only works one very small part of the body so it is only a very specific test for the hand/wrist.
Advantage
The advantage for the grip strength test is the low amount of equipment needed making it easy to carry around in the athletes pocket so they can do the test whenever they feel its best.
Disadvantage
the disadvantage for this test is the fact it can be unreliable. this test is unreliable because you do not know whether the any improvement has happened because it is just the athlete squeezing the hand dynamometer and what they do before the test will either improve or effect the work results making it not very reliable all together.,
