The advantage of short wavelength is that when it is shorter thus the size of the anthena will be smaller . This is for instance , when we compare the development of cell phones , we see that last time the anthena is larger and can be seen by the size of the cell phones but when we compared now with smart phones we see that our phones are smaller and lighter.
Bandwidth means the capacity of data . So when the bandwidth is large thus more data can be store .

Generally short wavelengths mean smaller and less expensive equipment. Short wavelength radars are more effective in detecting small particles such as cloud droplets and drizzle drops. ... The main advantage of using longer wavelengths is that absorption by the intervening particles is drastically reduced.

Faster application performance. These days, people want things fast. A higher bandwidth substantially increases the responsiveness of all your website’s applications.
Enables interactivity. Interaction increases a user’s connection and loyalty to a website. A higher bandwidth enhances the experience of your users by allowing them to upload and/or download content, such as photos and videos.
Increased data transfer capability. A higher bandwidth allows your users to upload and download larger amounts of data to your website.
Faster data transfer speed. The benefits of website interactivity are negated if uploads and downloads are painstakingly slow. A higher bandwidth results in significantly faster transfer speeds resulting in less frustration and greater customer satisfaction.
Allow for more simultaneous visitors. The more traffic your website can accommodate, the faster it will grow and the greater your profit. A higher bandwidth accomplishes this goal by allowing for multiple visitors at once.
Reduced crashes, bounces or “busy signals.” If users are frustrated or unable to access your website on their timeframe, you will lose them. A higher bandwidth helps to avoid compromising your server resulting in a significantly smoother experience for your users.
Support multiple concurrent sessions. Users are rarely running a single application at one time. With a higher bandwidth, you enable your users to multi-task and maximize their productivity by running multiple applications simultaneously.
Stream videos faster. Watching a video that constantly freezes is extremely frustrating. A higher bandwidth allows your users to focus on the content of your videos rather than the irritating interruptions.

Shorter wavelength means higher frequency and high energy.

Higher frequency is used for information transfer but not directly . It is used as carrier frequency in order to modulate the frequency which actually carries information.

The higher the frequency lower the height of receiving antenna is required, which is very feasible to construct.

Actually low frequency i.e longer wavelength are good but they have receiving height problem.

Also higher frequency cannot travel to longer distance and have noise/attenuation problem.

So frequencies are modulated in order to achieve advantages of both. Higher-frequency transmissions have more bandwidth than lower-frequency transmissions, which means higher-frequency transmissions can send substantially more data between devices in less time. However, more bandwidth only matters if you need it. Real-time radio transmissions such as broadcast television programming or wireless phone call conversations only benefit from more bandwidth until the medium hits maximum quality. Any bandwidth over that required to deliver the maximum quality is left unused.

For example, during the Russian coup against President Mikhail Gorbachev, when his access to communications was limited, Gorbachev was able to stay informed by means of theBBC World Service on shortwave.[23]

Low-cost shortwave radios are widely available in all but the most repressive countries in the world. Simple shortwave regenerative receivers can be easily built with a few parts.

In many countries (particularly in most developing nations and in the Eastern bloc during the Cold War era) ownership of shortwave receivers has been and continues to be widespread[24] (in many of these countries some domestic stations also used shortwave).

Many newer shortwave receivers are portable and can be battery-operated, making them useful in difficult circumstances. Newer technology includes hand-cranked radios which provide power without batteries.

Shortwave radios can be used in situations where Internet or satellite communications service is temporarily or long-term unavailable (or unaffordable).

Shortwave radio travels much farther than broadcast FM (88-108 MHz). Shortwave broadcasts can be easily transmitted over a distance of several thousands of kilometers, including from one continent to another.

Particularly in tropical regions, SW is somewhat less prone to interference from thunderstorms than medium wave radio, and is able to cover a large geographic area with relatively low power (and hence cost). Therefore, in many of these countries it is widely used for domestic broadcasting.

Very little infrastructure is required for long-distance two-way communications using shortwave radio. All one needs is a pair of transceivers, each with an antenna, and a source of energy (such as a battery, a portable generator, or the electrical grid). This makes shortwave radio one of the most robust means of communications, which can be disrupted only by interference or bad ionospheric conditions. Modern digital transmission modes such as MFSK and Olivia are even more robust, allowing successful reception of signals well below the noise floor of a conventional receiver.

the advantages of high wavelength in communication systems are :

The high frequency band is very popular with amateur radio operators, who can take advantage of direct, long-distance (often inter-continental) communications and the "thrill factor" resulting from making contacts in variable conditions. International shortwave broadcasting utilizes this set of frequencies, as well as a seemingly declining number of "utility" users (marine, aviation, military, and diplomatic interests), who have, in recent years, been swayed over to less volatile means of communication (for example, viasatellites), but may maintain HF stations after switch-over for back-up purposes.

However, the development of Automatic Link Establishment technology based on MIL-STD-188-141 for automated connectivity and frequency selection, along with the high costs of satellite usage, have led to a renaissance in HF usage in government networks. The development of higher speed modems such as those conforming to MIL-STD-188-110C which support data rates up to 120 kilobit/s has also increased the usability of HF for data communications and video transmission. Other standards development such asSTANAG 5066 provides for error free data communications through the use of ARQ protocols.

Some modes of communication, such as continuous wave Morse code transmissions (especially by amateur radio operators) and single sideband voice transmissions are more common in the HF range than on other frequencies, because of their bandwidth-conserving nature, but broadband modes, such as TV transmissions, are generally prohibited by HF's relatively small chunk of electromagnetic spectrum space.

Noise, especially man-made interference from electronic devices, tends to have a great effect on the HF bands. In recent years, concerns have risen among certain users of the HF spectrum over "broadband over power lines" (BPL) Internet access, which has an almost destructive effect on HF communications. This is due to the frequencies on which BPL operates (typically corresponding with the HF band) and the tendency for the BPL signal to leak from power lines. Some BPL providers have installed notch filters to block out certain portions of the spectrum (namely the amateur radio bands), but a great amount of controversy over the deployment of this access method remains. Other electronic devices including plasma televisions can also have a detrimental effect on the HF spectrum.

In aviation, HF communication systems are required for all trans-oceanic flights. These systems incorporate frequencies down to 2 MHz to include the 2182 kHz international distress and calling channel.

The upper section of HF (26.5-30 MHz) shares many characteristics with the lower part of VHF. The parts of this section not allocated to amateur radio are used for local communications. These include CB radios around 27 MHz, studio-to-transmitter (STL) radio links, radio control devices for models and radio paging transmitters.

Some radio frequency identification (RFID) tags utilize HF. These tags are commonly known as HFID's or HighFID's (High Frequency Identification).

Antennas[edit]
Since horizontally polarized radio waves work better for skywave propagation (due to the greater ground absorption of vertically polarized waves), antennas based on horizontal dipoles are typically used. The most common antennas in this band are wire antennas such as wire dipoles and the rhombic antenna; in the upper frequencies, multielement dipole antennas such as the Yagi, quad, and reflective array antennas. Powerful shortwave broadcasting stations often use large wire curtain arrays. For receiving, random wire antennas are often used.
