The Soviet Union had placed nuclear missiles in Cuba, posing a huge threat to the US. Americans were freaking out once Kennedy made it public news and the government knew they had to do something. He creates a blockade in hope it will help but tensions continued to build on both sides. After reaching a stalemate, the two sides decided on a compromise to end the fighting. Three days after the first atomic bomb was dropped, the US dropped second one on Japan. This bomb was even more destructive than the first one and forced the Japanese government to surrender to prevent another round of bombs. In an attempt to take over Afghanistan, the Soviets took thousands of soldiers into the country. However, they were met by fired up Afghans ready to fight. Using guerrilla tactics and either found Soviet weapons or from the US, they were able to hold their ground and beat the Soviets. After the Berlin Blockade took hold, the remaining Allies had a choice; they could give up their land to the Soviets to save people behind the blockade or find another way to reach them. They decided to bring supplies to their people through the air and the blockade was eventually lifted once they realized it was pointless.

Using the domino effect as reasoning, the US got involved in the conflict with supporting South Vietnam as they thought the Soviet Union was supporting North Vietnam, which launched it into a full scale war. More than 3 million people died, most of them were Vietnam civilians, and Nixon took the US out of the war in 1973. In Czechoslovakia, new ruler Alexander Dubcek created reform for better human rights while still under communism. The Soviets sent 600,000 soldiers to the area and the reforms were taken away.
