When we, as an education system, honor and respect the cultures and languages of our students we are really stating that we value these aspects of them. Students pick up on these responses to them, and can end up feeling a sense of pride about who they are and where they come from.

When we, as teachers, give our students the tools they need, their confidence goes through the roof. This confidence boost makes them want to learn and succeed more. It helps students feel confidant and proud, but it also helps students learn different cultures and languages. Bilingual students can also benefit from this in the future for a successful career. A con about a bilingual education program is that students can feel discouraged when things get hard, but as teachers we need to be there to encourage and help our students succeed.

Pros of Bilingual Education are that students at a young age learn a new and second language easier, and it increases their communication skills. They are able to learn subjects in both languages, so it allows for students to learn things more efficiently. For example, if students aren't able to grasp a Reading concept in English, they might be able to understand it in Spanish or vice versa. Cons of bilingual education are that it can be inconsistent if students aren't practicing second language everyday, which leads to students losing their capabilities and skills to learn a second language.

In my opinion, I believe that the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to bilingual education. A pro of bilingual education is that students are able to learn two languages at the same, which increases their opportunity of being successful in the future. Bilingual education also helps students better understand another culture, that helps them appreciate their culture and others. A con about bilingual education is that the program could be expensive and not accessible to the population. It can also be difficult to find teachers and even subs that are qualified for the program.

Bilingual programs, such as the Dual Immersion program at Voorhies, really helps students in the long run. I believe incorporating a student's native language and adding a second one is not only useful but empowering. A pro is that a student does not need lose any sense of their culture through the language they speak if both languages are being paid attention to. A con would be that the mastery of both languages requires more time. Students might not be as proficient in one particular language if their time is spent cut in half for another language.

There are many pros to bilingual education. Pros such as it keeps their mind active, helps students connect what they learned in the past with recent information, and it will help them in their future. During our time in the EDTE 4100 class, we learned that it helps students to connect the information they learned with the information they are currently learning. The students at Voorhies also expressed how that has helped them learn their new language.
I honestly do not see any cons to having students in bilingual education programs. There are some people that say it will hinder student's English learning growth, but many studies have proved that it helps them learn the language better. I am an advocate for students to learn a second language.

Being bilingual a is great opportunity to learn at an early age because it can help students in the long run. It opens doors for them later down when they pick careers, because being bilingual is a huge asset her in the US. The only con that could arise is the difficulty a student might face when they are still developing both languages.

A pro to a bilingual education program is that it can benefit the students in the long run because they can be used more in their work. They can begin to learn a new language at a young age an if they keep practicing it then can continue to expand their knowledge of the language and it can really benefit them. For me, Spanish has always been my first language and I hope to continue to use both languages and maybe learnt another.
