This is a quote from Bane, a Batman villain, but I'm using it here to show how the Congo natives are products of their environment, and are completely at home in the Heart of Darkness. The Europeans "think darkness is their ally" and come in with lawless intention to take its bounty, in a sense "blinding" the natives with their alien technology.
