Personally, the most relevant aspect of Competency Standard 12.1 was the importance of recognising that no two people are the same regarding their beliefs and that someone's beliefs shouldn't impact their ability to receive medical attention, resources or care.

I have improved my understanding of different belief systems and now have more appreciation and respect for other cultures and their religions even though they may differ from mine, I can acknowledge that everyone makes their own path in life, and a particular faith allows people to feel fulfilled and connected to their God.

Since furthering my knowledge of this standard, I now feel like I am able to create a safe environment when providing care to people, no matter their beliefs or culture. This is beneficial for me to have learnt now instead of later as I can recognise correct and incorrect practices and strive to make people feel comfortable and respected in my presence whilst remaining culturally responsible.

Migrant & Refugee Women’s Health Partnership.

Education:
For refugees or people who immigrate to Australia, it can be harder for them to find a job based on the education they may or may not have obtained in their country of origin. This is because the education obtained in certain countries isn't at the same academic level as in Australia or a specific degree obtained in another country might not be valid in Australia based on how that degree is practiced in another country. As well, under education can make it harder for a person to adjust to a new country where everything is potentially different and what was once learnt either has to be changed, adapted or relearnt entirely.

World Health Organization.

Afghanistan, also known as the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, is located in central Asia and, unfortunately, an incredibly war-torn country with its countrysides consumed by unexploded mines, which often take the lives of children herding sheep who stepped in the wrong spot (2022).

In 2022, Australia granted Afghanistan refugees 26,500 humanitarian visas over a five-year period, but since then, over half of these visas have been accepted, and there have been over 40,000 applications submitted to receive a visa (Gavshon, 2023).

Three common health concerns for Afghanistan refugees listed on the Australian Refugee Practice Guide that should be tested for are Hepatitis C, Malaria and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Hepatitis C:
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne virus that attacks the liver and causes inflammation of the liver. A treatment available to a refugee with a positive test result is an HCV RNA test, which, if positive again, will be referred to an accredited doctor for further assessment and treatment.

Malaria:
Malaria is a disease resulting from a parasite found in infected mosquitos after they have bitten a human. What is done in cases of refugees with positive test results, they are taken to a hospital to receive treatment.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV):
HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system and can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Arguably, the sport that Australia is known for is AFL, but some would debate whether it is cricket or rugby. AFL is unique to Australia in that it was created here and is only played in 60 other countries worldwide since being formed.

AFL consists of 18 players from a team moving the footy around the field by kicking, running with and hand-balling the ball to other players. The main aim is to score a 'goal' between the two centre posts, which is worth 6 points or score a 'behind' in the two outer posts, which is worth 1 point.

Good Education Media. First discovered by Indigenous people to have healing benefits, eucalyptus leaves were used as an antiseptic in bush medicine decades ago and are still used in traditional bush medicine today.

In my household growing up, eucalyptus oil was put in a diffuser to help me or my family when our noses were congested.
