Mae: the media represents a reality to audiences through the essential elements and representation. each media process constructs an image or representation of an event, idea or story, and it represents it in a way which is different from the audience's direct experience of reality. representations can include selections of images, sounds, visual aids and the way they are presented related and ordered. the below youtube video displays the representation of Australia's history and some cultures. this video came across as in ways racist with the terms being used to describe those entering the video, terms such as "boat people" were used in a derogatory term giving a negative representation or influence to viewers of the Australia Day ad. the ad attempts to show diversity within Australian culture and somehow does the opposite. it was a subtle gloss over the of Australia's history fulfilling racial stereotypes and ignoring the mass genocide that occurred when the "first fleet" came to Australia.

The media in Australia is produced by a variety of production companies and distribution services. Primary distributors and producers that might come to mind would be corporations like the ABC. The ABC is a government funded organisation that produces news, radio, television and more. They are known for shows that focus around Australian stories. Shows such as 'The Weekly', 'Nowhere Boys', 'Play School', 'Count Down' and 'Summer Heights High'. These all being iconic Aunsralian TV shows. Other Corporations that produce and distribute our media might be commercial companies such as 'Seven', 'Nine' and 'Ten' these corporations known for their TV Shows and more sensationalised news broadcasting. 'Seven' is known for many iconic reality TV shows like 'House Rules' and 'Masterchef' as well as Soup Operas like 'Home and Away'. Though a large amount of the media we consume is produced by major corporations such as these, a lot of the smaller productions we see are produced by smaller companies one example of this being the Melbourne based production studio 'Oh Yeah Wow' who produce music videos for many Australian bands and produce adds for major companies like 'Coke' and 'Optus'.
