What is it? How long have you had it? Where did it come from?
This is a weird picture in the car that I took showing off some manicure but the more important thing in this picture are the rings on my hand. Tried to find something to give you all a concrete example! I received the engagement ring in October 2021 when my now husband proposed to me, and the wedding ring, of course, on my wedding day in August of 2022. It came as a wedding proposal from my husband, which is why it is so important.

PS: Ignore my scaly dry hands. They say you can tell someone's age by looking at their hands, but if I'm an example, I'm about 73.

What about this object is important to you? What does it symbolize?

I've never been a "ring girl" and didn't really have "ring dreams" or even "wedding dreams" when getting married. As a Sociologist I tend to be kind of cynical about social structures sometimes - how patriarchal! Why do I have to be "given away"? What's with all the white? The industry is robbing people! Marriage is an economic institution and society is built for couples so I'm forced into this social dynamic! I am still that way (stubborn), but the ring represents the thing I'm very NOT cyncical about - my marriage and partnership with my boo. My husband is my best friend and partner and when I wear this ring, I feel the connection I have to him.

What does this artifact reflect about your values?
Well, obviously I value my marriage. Outside of that I have strong values in my relationships. I am a people person (social studies teacher, it makes sense). The connection to my people is what gives me purpose. This ring is the representation of my connection to my person. I often prioritize my relationships over other parts of my life and I'm proud to symbolize my connection to my partner on my finger.

What is it? How long have you had it? Where did it come from?
Here's a picture of a pillow I've had since 6th grade from my grandmother in China.

What about this object is important to you? What does it symbolize?
This pillow is really important to me because it was made by my grandmother and I hug it every single night, I never use it as a "pillow" because it's even softer than some of the dolls. After having it I had never use put any pillow on my bed even though I don't use it as a pillow. It symbolizes my family because the filler came from my grandfather's brother's wife who was working in a factory in the 80s, she got some really good quality filler and give it to my grandmother. So you will never find the same filler as soft as my pillow. Also, whenever I was depressed I always hug it tightly (The size is just perfect for me) and think about my grandmother who comfort me a lot.

What does this artifact reflect about your values?
I value my family and self-care, and other than that I value memories. I still keep things even if it is just a piece of a sticker from previous ones, whenever I see them I will recall memories about me or that person. All of the stuff I keep would come from my first grade, fourth grade, or anytime in my life.

1 - What is it? How long have you had it? Where did it come from?
This is a picture of all of the blankets that my family and I bought in Ecuador; My family and I went to visit and meet some of my family members who live there, who I have never met before! These blankets were handmade by some of their closest friends, and some made by them. We went to Quito (the capital) in summer of 2019.
2. What about this object is important to you? What does it symbolize?
These blankets are important to me because they were made by my family in Ecuador, and made with love. Although they are just blankets, they bring me a lot of comfort because of where they came from, and who made them. There are hundreds of little markets in Ecuador, and some of my family there stands there all day and sells them to make money, since they are retired. This symbolizes my family and the love that they have for me, and the love that I have for them back. They even took the time to show me how to make some, and the smaller one on the top of the pile in the picture, is one that my great aunt and I made together, the first day we met. She unfortunately passed away a few months ago, and even though I only met her once and spent a week with her, I felt very close to her by bonding and making these blankets together, and it symbolizes her hard work to make these. The blanket not only brings me physical comfort and warmth, but reminds me of her love for me and the great but small time I had with her.
3. What does this artifact reflect about your values?
This reflects the values of my ethnicity/culture and my family because it is a small part of our culture, and how much they value handmade products and how much time and effort they put into these; these goods are also different to me because most items I own at home isn't handmade, especially by a close family member, and I treasure it very much.

These are my hand wraps. I have owned them for 4 years now and they are valuable to me because I get great use out of them. So, what are they? Well simply; they are wraps that help secure my wrists and joints in my hands, as well as adding some padding to my knuckles for hitting the bag. I have been training fighting since a very young age and this purchase helped me take the next step towards becoming better at a hobby I enjoy so much. They arent eternal, they haven't been passed down to me from generation to generation, and I will replace them someday soon, but regardless of the pair of wraps, I will always value them very much.
