The Southern Colonies were mostly agricultural with few cities and limited schools. The southern colonies had fertile farmlands that contributed to the rise of cash crops such as rice, tobacco, and indigo. Plantations developed and slavery allowed the wealthy and large landowners to cultivate large tracts of land.

The New England colonists were primarily religious reformers and Separatists. They were seeking a new way of life to glorify God and for the greater good of their spiritual life. New England had craftsmen skilled in shipbuilding. New England’s economy at first specialized in nautical equipment. Later the region developed mills and factories.

The middle colonies welcomed people from diverse lifestyles. Their social-political structure included all three varieties: villages, cities and small farms. The Mid-Atlantic had a workforce of farmers, fishermen, and merchants. The middle colonies had rich farmland and a moderate climate, making it more suitable to grow grain and livestock.

All Middle Colonies have a moderate climate with sufficient rainfall, the soil is pretty climate, and there are many lakes, rivers, and good harbors.

Commerce/Production
All the Middle Colonies produced corn and wheat, so they could transport them to Europe and West Indies. The colonies created businesses that will manufacture iron, textiles, raise livestock, and trade fur with Indian tribes. African and Indian were used as indentured slaves, but they got paid.

Culture

-New York government selected a king to rule, but they practiced many religions with Anglican Church being most well known. Money separated the wealthy and poor.

-New Jersey government selected a King to rule, residence had religious freedom. New Jersey lived a "simple" life: they built their own houses out of wood, and made their own tools/utensils.

-Delaware's government was elected by the people, and there was no main religion or church. Immigrants came from Dutch, Swedes, Finns, French, Scots, and British. The immigrants became farmers, craftsmen, laborers, merchants, and shopkeepers.

-Pennsylvania's government was elected by the people. William Penn fought for the religious freedom of Quakers.

The weather there was also moderate and when combined with the fertile soil, was great for farming. Small manufacturing businesses also played a huge part in the everyday lives of the middle colonists.

The southern colonies had a warmer climate which was perfect for farming. Cash crops also played a huge role in the community with it being the primary source of income for many. They also turned to indentured servants and African slaves for labor on their farms.

The New England colonies had very harsh winters and short summers. With rocky soil, this climate was not ideal for farming. Instead, the colonists relied on fishing, ship building, and whaling. They also turned to African and Native American slaves for labor.

-Craft men skilled in shipbuilding
-Economy specialized in nautical equipment
-Developed mills and factories
-Connected to the church and village community

Middle colonies:
-Welcomed people from diverse lifestyles
-Social/Political structure included villages, cities, and small farms
-Workforce of farmers, fishermen, and merchants
-Rich farmland
-Moderate climate
-Provide trading opportunities

Most people made a living from farming.

New England's climate was cloudy and rainy while South Carolina had a sunny climate. This meant that they had to grow two different types of plants and they made different amounts of money.

Most of the colonists were christian but generally, they got to choose their religions.

There were many wars due to claims of land.

In the 18th century, over a hundred thousand Africans were imported to the colonies to work as salves.

Depending on where you went in the colonies, you would hear many different languages.

The diversity in the colonies helped them unite in opposition to the British rule and ultimately declare their independence.

Although the colonies were all extremely different, they all came together to fight for independence.
