This piece caught my eye because I think the contrast between the material and the original object is humorous. The original controller is supposed to be about quickness and technology, while concrete/fossilization is about ancient heaviness. It also makes me think about what future civilizations will think of us when they find the remnants of our society, and we aren't around anymore to explain it.  2. Most of the time when we think of concrete as a material, we think of utilitarian uses like buildings, parking lots, or maybe fountains, etc. I like that this artist is using concrete for a sculptural purpose without a typical use or function. 3. In this case, I think the value of the object comes from the artist's idea, not from the material itself. I love this work because instead of using wood to depict some other form, he is revealing the nature of wood itself, as a material, how the wood was created by nature. It makes you think about how living things grow and change with the passage of time. 3. Although sometimes wood can be very valuable as a material, these seem like 'common' logs to begin with. I think the value of this work is more about the artist's concept and his ability to carve the baby tree out so carefully. Usually knitting and crocheting by hand is a labor of love. It is historically a hand-craft performed by women for the comfort and economic benefit of their families. This work made me stop in my tracks because of its precision and intricate execution. 2. I love how Ohno takes such a common material that is everywhere around us and turns it into such amazing sculpture. I think it's an interesting gender dynamic that she seems to revel in subjects like jets, guns and tanks that stereotypically, young boys often like to draw. 3. cardboard has almost no intrinsic value, but in the hands of this artist, it can be turned into fantastic art. The reason why I chose this one for found objects is because I think that is very interesting the way that they made it look so cool. I think all these objects can be found would horns caught in feather metal which made a beautiful sculpture with hair like features. There are to me is very beautiful.

The reason I like this is because it’s very beautiful I think blowing glass if that’s how it was made is very interesting to me because it’s different and it’s beautiful the way that everything is mixed into it with the grasshopper at all it’s pretty amazing. I think the technique is very difficult and hard to master.

Glaze and stoneware were the materials used for this ceramic piece. I found this piece the most interesting because it gave me curiousity as to how he perfected the flowers on the inside of the bowl. And to color the outside of the flowers green without getting any of the coloring onto the flowers.
1. This piece caught my eye because it reminded me of a fruit basket. Where it doesn't appear to be a big bowl, I can see this being a holder for keys, coins, sunglasses, and more! The combination of the beige flowers followed by the green, gives it like a nature feel to the bowl. 
2. This piece, in my opinion, is better/more interesting than the other examples of the same material because the other examples showed lots of thick tea container displays. Or just a more regular looking bowl, with simple colors applied to it. There were lots of grey/white pieces, along with blue/white pieces. So I enjoyed seeing something being of a different color mix.
3. As this piece contained glaze and stoneware, I believe that more of the value of this object comes from the material itself. The idea of this was pretty basic. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary, nor does it seem like it was much of a difficult piece to create. The spiralling of the ring is in combination of the snake slithering around, to give it this shape that it has become.
1. This piece caught my eye because it reminded me of the movie, Cleopatra. The creation of the snake applies the message of it being scary, yet powerful. The ridges created as its skin, makes it appear to seem as it is lifelike. 
2. In my opinion, this piece is more interesting than the other examples of the same material because this ring was created from a fine hammered sheet with mcrib. The creation of coiling the ring also makes the snake stand out. Compared to if it didn't have any spiraling effect.
3. I believe that the concept/idea that the artist had in creation of this piece, and the time/skill difficulty that was involved in the executing of this idea, is what gives this piece more value. Though this ring is gold and made of a metal, having to apply the incisions on the snake, such as the skin feel, head and tail, is what seems as if it took focus to complete. The head of the snake seems so realistic and the curling of it's tail, as if it is ready to grasp onto something. The texture of the clothes being worn in this image seems realistic. The image from head to toe, including the costume accessories, all sync into this work of art beautifully. 
1. This piece caught my eye because of how well-detailed this is drawn. From the headbands, to the mask, to the jewelery, and the shackles on both of the persons' feet. The movement that this imagery shows is the two being completely in sync with one another.
2. This piece, in my opinion, is better/more interesting amongst the rest because of the story this image tells. As the caption mentions, they are Cambodian dancers. I have never seen how Cambodian dancers usually dress for their events, but because of this drawing, I can now get an idea of it. With the man being called the Ogre, and the woman being called the Maiden, shows the respect between the two. The ogre is shown wearing a somewhat creepy looking mask. I can only imagine that's why he is considered an Ogre, as it shows the look of one.
3. I belive the combination of all three such as the materials used, the idea of this drawing, and the time/skill this piece took to complete us what gives this piece vaue in its entirety. Should the artist of used oil pantings, or water colors, maybe. But to create such detail as he did in his drawing here, I cannot see it done any other way. The use of a pen, you need focus and consistency. Your hand must be entirely still to create such a masterpiece. So I say all 3 apply to this piece, and that is what makes it wonderful. 1. This piece caught my eye due to the colors used within this textile piece, and the overall picture of what I'm looking at. This textile piece shows happiness between each other, while also, being outside enjoying nature. 
2. This piece is better/more interesting than the other examples because this one specificially focuses on the native indian heritage. You can notice how they dress based off their culture, and realize how they live. Smoking out of those long pipes are also part of what native indians do, as part of their lifestyle.
3. I say the material used, and the time/skill difficulty involved in the executing of this idea, is what gives this textile piece value to its name. Working with fabric isn't easy as you must know how to sew and be patient. Creating textiles requires lots of materials to be used, and your hand must be steady throughout the entire process. You must make sure that your image of what you are trying to create, is the image that you will see in the final stages. From the details of the chest area, to the ridges on the dress show how beautiful this evening dress must've been. 
1. This piece caught my attention because doing any type of artwork with glass is exceptionally difficult. To create it from bottom to top, or top to bottom, you must be very careful as this entire sculpture is very fragile. To be able to show detail especially on a glass piece, is mesmerizing.
2. This piece is more interesting than the other examples because of how big this sculpture is. It is almost a 5 ft. sculpture. That is as tall as most humans. The width as well, has a realistic sizing to it. This is almost as if someone had a carving of their own body and proceeded to give such to this artist. Then from there, the artist would begin the glass piece process. But to know this came free hand is incredible. 
3. I would say that the material and time/skill difficulty is what creates the value of this piece. Glass is easily breakable, and not usually cheap. So to have complete focus and perfect this scultpure, is indeed time consuming. Glass sculptures are very popular across the globe, and they are always beautiful. That's what value is about. I believe the value comes from the concept of making it look like a peacock.

What really caught my eye with this photograph is the light and dark depths that separate each floor. I looked into this particular photograph and had found out this artist purchased a property that was going to be condemned and liked the the look of the chaos within the building and chose to transcend the different floors into a photograph collage which distorts the original picture to fit the viewers visual frame and stimulates the complexity. Fun fact, the idea of the dress came from Marie Antoinette's statement "Let them eat cake"

I feel that pottery is quite hard to tailor. The way the lotus is shaped, is very precise and detailed, and too keep it looking that way for so well taken care of that it simply catches the eye. The skill that this artist must have taken up in that era where clay must have been accessible is understandable, but to keep it together for that long must have been held together quite tightly. Interesting enough, it was found in a tomb which reminds me of the lost treasures. I think the artist had the intent on pleasing the king, and making something simple but delicate speaking as that was more of the style in ancient Korea.

I understand that a lot of people have jade bracelets now, but they have modern technology now. Back in that period they did not have modern technology, so what did they use to carve Persian into jade. The carving talks about angels and it is peaceful, in comparison to the white of the jade; almost relevant. I find it interesting that they drank red wine out of a cup that is sort of spiritual, since it is talking about angels. Jade was a rare stone so the artist must have been skilled and trusted to carve a precise message into a rare stone. Isak is part of a group of trolls made by Thomas Dambo with recycled wood. Isak caught my attention for many reasons, but the main reasons were his size, and reason behind his creation. Thomas is the creator of Trollstigen Trail in Breckenridge, Colorado. All his trolls are made from recycled wood, as a way to save nature. I think this piece is a lot more interesting than the other ceramic art pieces made because it looks like it took a lot of time and work to make, First it has to be molded into this particular shape and then painted on.

In this case I believe that time and skill is involve in the process of making this piece because of its shape and design. The process is long probably due to the time it takes for this to dry and then design on.

I like they way the woman is posed with her head tilted and what looks like a headpiece. I ended up looking at more of their art and they are all similar in style.

What makes this piece a lot more interesting is the use of empty lines within the bodies form, I also like the use of dots, and I appreciate the contrast between the figure and the background, the background looks a lot more open even with the designs outside. I'm assuming they are flowers or petals, she might be located outside in nature. 

There are so many artists that use ink to make realistic art or renditions of real people and scenery not that there is anything wrong with this, but I like that this uses a different perspective on the way people look, it takes being creative to come up with something different. The details are lines and dots rather than shading or other ways of making skin look like actual skin. In this case I believe the concept and ideas that the artist had a lot to do with the finished product.

I have always loved this statue and was unaware that an artist has made a smaller version of this. I chose this one because of its simplicity and how fragile it looks even though its made of bronze.

I believe what makes this bronze statue a lot more interesting because of the way she is posed and how she is standing on one leg while trying to handle a bow and arrow. You can see how focused she is, but also there is something very elegant about this statue. It also evokes the feeling of determination for me. Overall for me this evokes feeling and I also think its pleasing to the eye.

You see all these different people of different genders and ages portrayed as colorful and vibrant like if they were full of life and then you see death on the opposite side looking over almost with an evil glare as if it were waiting for its next victim. It's also portrayed in much darker colors and blues with a variety of crosses. I can relate to this art piece because there has been death in my family recently and if you've never lost someone then all you see in life are these vibrant colors, but once you've experienced loss you can also relate to these dark and blue colors and see the bigger picture.

I have always loved the use of oil paints because they can add texture to a painting and the fact that this uses oil paints makes me curious to see what it looks like in person. Although Gustav used oil paints he was able to capture texture by just using a variety of different patterns. I think this is more interesting due to the fact that you can spend a lot of time looking at this painting because there is so much being presented to our eyes.

I believe skill, time, concept, and material added immense value to this work because of the way he was able to capture different people and patterns. Time and concept I'm sure took a long time because of there are so many colors and patterns being used to bring this piece to life. The material also added to it because of the use of color and if you know anything about how to make oil painting vibrant and long lasting than this also takes a lot of skill.

The reason this piece caught my eye is because it's like no perfume bottle i have ever seen, it has a pointed bottom which it balances on and a flat top that I really like about it. I personally liked this object because of it's shape obviously but also because of its color pallet and patterns. I like the subtle hints of gold mixed with the earthy tones and cobalt blue. I think this one really caught my eye over other oil paintings because of how soft and light colored it is and also reminds me of Romanticism art. I always think of them of being hyper feminine and dainty. I just love the shape and design of the dish and also the fact that blue and gold go beautifully together, but not only that. This caught my attention because of the title and colors that went along with it. I believe "Vessel" is a wonderful name for this piece, as it reminds me of a nebula or beautiful galaxy. 2. Not only did the beautiful colors entrap me, but I found the shape itself very odd. Yasokichi's style is large bodies with small tops. I'm sure this piece took a lot of patience and there were probably some mistakes made in the process. In some of the other pieces, there was a sense of flexibility if they made a mistake - but with the 'Vessel', only perfection would be accepted. 3. Porcelain is already expensive but I do not believe its the material that gives this piece value. Through my research, I discovered that Yasokichi learned his skills from his grandfather and his father. This is a family passion - I can feel the generations of practice through this piece. I wonder if any other seasoned artist/potterer could recreate a similar piece without the support of two generations? They are referred to as lover's eye and they were given to a loved one, and these usually had the eye of a lover and only the eye to keep that persons identity a secret. I just love the concept and I also think it's interesting that water color stays this way on a different medium other than paper for example although I don't condone the use of ivory whatsoever.

Not only is it painted on a different medium it is also just a single part of the human body and that is the eye. Usually when people use watercolor they tend to draw out these elaborate pieces that depict scenery and people especially for the 1800's where portrait styled pieces were a lot more common.

I believe the artist needs to have skill in this case because it is difficult or at least to me it seems difficult to draw to try and capture what a person really looks like, luckily it is just an eye that is painted, but it's also having to use watercolor as your medium which can be a skill that people need learn.

(1) Long’s granite creation caught my eye because of its simplicity. I am used to works of art that use stones to create complex forms (like human bodies in sculptures). Thus, the unique, naturalistic look of this stone composition caught me off guard. (2) My curiosity piqued, I soon discovered that there is no obvious rhythm or pattern to the way Long has placed these pieces of granite, except for the fact that they form the shape of a circle. This allows me to easily picture in my mind’s eye this work of art in a natural environment as a creation of Mother Nature. Consequently, for me, the granite itself becomes like a story. (3) The value of the work of art comes solely from its concept. The simplicity of the composition seems to turn the focus from the details of the artwork to the feelings and thoughts that arise when one views it. This is different for every person, which makes this concept even more special. For me, my thoughts turn immediately to fond memories of exploring beautiful places in nature.

Because Chinese porcelain was so rare, cases were built around them to protect them from breaking, and they became suitable gifts to give the very rich to be used to decorate princely homes. (1) The initial reason this work of art caught my eye was because of its structure. Andric’s use of smaller circles arranged in a tight spiral coil reminded me forcibly of a slinky. (2) The giant-sized slinky structure by itself is quite impressive. However, the name of this work of art also fascinated me; it is titled “sisyphus” after the character Sisyphus in Greek mythology. The steel slinky is positioned in a way so that from the side it looks like it could be a giant sphere, just like the rock in the myth that Sisyphus is punished to push up a hill for eternity. (3) Steel itself is not an extremely rare or expensive material. I believe that the value of this work of art is found in both the difficulty of its execution and the overall idea. A structure this size requires the artist to be skilled with the type of material it is made from; additionally, the artist must be willing to sacrifice the time and energy it takes to complete this type of project. (2) I think the most exceptional part about this composition is that it shows three stages of growth for the inky cap mushroom: one small mushroom with a tightly shut cap, one medium-sized mushroom with a partly open cap, and finally a tall mushroom with a fully open cap. (3) The workmanship for this creation by Gallé is exquisite. Each mushroom, from its stalk to its cap, is intricately detailed. The reason why I think her artwork is successful is because her artwork is pretty interesting. At the Asian Art Museum, I became highly interested in a stone sculpture of a 3 headed serpent. This sculpture is from Vietnam and came about 1150 to 1250. This sculpture is made completely of stone and was said to be a headdress of a missing figure. I was drawn to this sculpture because of its mythical nature. I love mythical creatures and it is said that the serpents play a protective role in mythology. You can visually see the type of texture the sculpture would have and the 3 heads bring the sculpture unity and balance. There is also form in the eyes, spikes and scales. I believe what sets this sculpture apart from other sculptures is that while it was being transported, the boat sank and it was recovered a little under 100 years later and it still held its shape well. When I look at this piece I feel like this could be from a family member or one of my ancestors. This piece was made between 1150 and 1450 AD. What made this piece stand out from others was its use of organic shapes, they were so abstract yet it promotes unity. There are many different uses of lines. At first glance, you can tell it was created decades ago from the state it is in now. The colors are dull and there are a few cracks on the face of the bottle and at the top. From the details of the eyes, the ears, and the beard it made me think it was created by an Asian artist which is true, this art was made in Cambodia in the 11th century. I have seen other asian ceramic art such as various vases and kitchen plates but this was something I have never seen before. Also, by the title "Anthropomorphic Bottle in Human Form" I thought it was very interesting to see an ordinary thing become human like just from the adding of a face. I think there can be value in the piece itself because I believe that it can represent a real figure such as a religious being. The earrings that are worn on this bottle makes me think that this was a figure of a high class. Reading the description of this mosaic was surprising because this is a real human skull used as a foundation for the little pieces you see on top of it. The teeth are real teeth from someone many years ago and I thought it was a good use of them in this specific genre of art because it contributes to the many pieces used for material concept. Aside from the teeth, there are other smaller textiles all around it that also makes it interesting to see. I think since this was a real skull there is a lot of value in it because I know it is hard to preserve certain human remains. The Toilers of the Sea - Albert Pinkham Ryder 
This art piece caught my eye because it reminds me of my time out in the ocean. At a quick glance It doesn’t look like a boat. I first thought it was a shark/animal. I can see that the artist used different strokes at different angles.

This art piece caught my eye because it’s bright and it stood out of the rest. I really like Japanese artists, and also this one looks very simple but yet I know that it requires percision.

This art piece caught my eye because it looks like a bird, and that color green is very pleasing to my eye. I also really like the grooves in this, Its not too sharp but it feels like I can run my fingers through them.

This art piece caught my eye because it looks very “vintage” I like how its not like clean and it gives it a bit of character. The cracks, and color is degrading feels like it was made to be there in my opinion.

Vase - Bequest of Benjamin Altman
This art piece caught my eye because it is very simple, from my taste I don’t really like “loud” details. I think that certain art looks good simple. The coloring and grooves at the top caught my eye, the color is very bright but not overly bright.

The background is from China. This piece caught my eye because of the color is pinkish-red glazes, and it looks beautiful. I like how is wide at the bottom, and is thin from the top. I would add my favorite rose to it. Which it would be either red or white one. I know there's a lot of vase's out there to choose from, but in my opinion this one is one of kind. I believe the value of this vase it comes from the idea the artist has. As we know this painting is about struggle with mental health. The reason this master piece caught my eye was because he painted the hall far way, is reminder to myself that not matter how far you are, there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Life can be hard at times, but all we can do is stay positive and move forward. This painting is a high value because he painted this base on how he was feeling and dealing with. In Ca. 1887. This piece caught my eye because of the crazy patterns it has. I like when clothing have different patterns, and don't match. I feel like is unique and is something different. Being different or unique is good. Also, I like how Tamar use the same mediums pf patterns, but made it look different, and not matching. The edges are blocks of black moire. You can't really tell but some patches are decorated with paint and embroidery. This gives this piece a great value, and also the idea the artist had. This piece caught my because I grew up catholic, and we would always go to church. As I grew older I stopped going to church, but I never have forgotten about God. Life gets busy, but when I feel upset or need to talk to someone, I ask god why is happening or why I feel this way. This reminded me to always have faith, and when we feel alone to turn around, and talk to god. He's always by our side. He gave his life for us. This piece caught my eye because I love how the guitar sounds in music, and also is one of my favorite instruments even though I don't know how to play it. I just think is so amazing how a guitar can me some awesome music and how it gives the right tone to music. One of my favorite singers is John Mayer, and the way he plays the guitar is amazing. This piece has a lot of value because is so important to a lot of musicians. The natural color of the marble brings all the attention on the actual carving. This one looks like water floating. I think this is an interesting material to work with since glass is very delicate and can easily fail. I know you have to work with the glass when it is hot in order to shape it.
