This decision I believe is saying that each county will get a certain amount of money for the school year to pay their teachers or for their classrooms. The counties in North Carolina are different and have different needs. some already may be well equipped in the classroom but underpaying their teachers a great day and vice versa.

Today if you give districts the same funding that would not demonstrate equity. Some districts need more money than others. Some districts have the materials already, and some don't. Giving the same funding would not give the districts the same opportunity because in the end, schools would still not be equal. Some schools need to  rise and get new materials while some schools already have them. Schools need different things. Each school should get the funding based on what they need. This is equity.

The amount should be based on the number of students and the need of the students (i.e special education)  As I stated on my worksheet, "if the school district is dependent on the personal property taxes to fund the schools and they are located in low-income areas that do not generate as much money as greater-income areas, there is a funding discrepancy. That funding discrepancy can prohibit those school districts from providing equitable educational benefits to the students due to the lack revenue in that particular county."  Students should not be punished for living in lower-income areas because that is all their parents can afford. All children should be given an equal opportunity to succeed.

Although the constitution of NC does not say this, I believe that every student in NC should have the equal opportunity to resources for their school districts. I come from a very poor, rural area and my school had the bare minimum for students. I agree with Leandro and company because I think every child should have equal opportunity to a great education regardless of where they live.

Different school districts have different needs, and therefore, require different levels of funding. Some schools have more disadvantaged students and require more special equipment or materials to accommodate these students. Not all school districts reap in the same amount of funding. It is not fair to the students who live in poorer areas to be limited with their educational opportunities because of a lack of adequate funding. The one shoe fits ideal is not realistic and will all the richer schools to flourish while the poorer ones continue to suffer.

I think it is important that all students have equal access to a basic education. However, I think there is more than a basic education that children need. So while I agree with equal education in the sense of everyone receiving the same basic education, children need more than that. Students spend more time with their educators and at school than they do at home, so it is important that their needs are met at school and this may go beyond just a basic education. School should be able to provide for their students needs beyond education and some locations or counties may require more funding than others. Some counties are simple more impoverished than others.

This case tried to use that umbrella term to say that all counties have equal access to funds to provide each student in NC that. I hope that we can all agree that is simply not the case. Someone mentioned above that equality does not mean equity and I could not agree more. Just because all students have access to public school, does not mean that each school will provide the same quality of education to said student. Schools in at risk areas are constantly over looked and the funding is simply not there. Time and time again they have been ripped off by the state and that is simply wrong and only hurting students.

State decision stated that it was unconstitutional for each school to receive equal funding as that did not equate to equitable conditions for students. As many people in the disagree side have already noted, different counties require different needs. Leandro v. state established that it was the state of NC's responsibility to determine the individual need of the school and distribute state and federal funding appropriately so that EVERY student within NC had the best, equitable chance to receive a basic sound education. 

I also agree with the guidelines that the court set down that properly define what a basic sound education consisted of. It eliminated further court cases over whether or not the schools' were properly providing and education by setting a baseline of "Can the student do ______, ______, and ______?"
