Over time, we see our core values don't always align with the expectations of our administrators, etc. for the classroom/ teaching, and the pressures of standardized testing, etc. We find that we have to be more intentional now with deciding whether to adjust what we teach based on our values vs. these expectations.

As the world has changed, so have my values as a social studies teacher. My primary goal is not to teach content, but rather to develop curiosity and create engaged citizens who feel as if they have a voice to make change. Other goals include: making the content accessible not harder and having students persevere beyond their current edges. Teaching students that failure is not a bad thing....we learn from our mistakes and grow. Shifting the mentality from giving up to finding another way. And, having fun! Difficult/uncomfortable doesn't = bad. Engaging more parents/families (not just Back to School Night.)
