In the region is the municipality of Villa del Rosario, known for being the place where the act of independence of Colombia was signed in 1821. Coming to the north of Satander is to immerse yourself in the history of Colombia's independence through museums and commemorative monuments.

In the colonial period, the region was the scene of the fight for independence in 1810, the first cry for independence ended in Cucuta, which marked the beginning of the fight against Spanish rule. Later in 1821, bases of the great Colombia were created.
