We learned that there are many red flags in a relationship. These include jealousy, controlling behavior, cheating, lying, manipulation, substance abuse, abuse of any kind, and gaslighting. A few examples of an unhealthy/toxic relationship are your partner telling you what to wear, where you go, making your partner doubt your honesty, and making your partner feel uncomfortable. If you do not feel comfortable or safe in your relationship you should find a way out because the longer you stay or hope for them to change the worst it gets.

In this course we learned how to properly apologize to someone, instead of replying in a rude manner or not saying anything at all you should be sincere, explain why you're apologizing, make sure the timing is right, be honest, and make amends and promise to never do it again for example; if you bump into someone you should say “I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking, next time I will be more aware of my surroundings”. Sometimes people don't like to apologize because of fear, pride, vulnerability, or embarrassment or they don't mean it.

In this course, we learned about qualities in a friend, and we got shown what the good qualities and the bad qualities are. Things like honesty, acceptance, support, a good sense of humor, respect, and trustworthiness are all good qualities, on the other hand, jealousy, dishonesty, and not accepting are all qualities of a bad one. In friendships, we tend to find people with the same interests as ourselves because it makes people bond more and without a bond, the friendship will not last.

We learned things such as what age you can start working, minimum wage, hours, and how many hours they have to pay you if you get sent home early. For example; the age you have to be to get your first job is 14 years old, if you work over 8 hours you get overtime, and your manager needs to pay you for a total of 4 hours if they send you home even if you’ve only been working for an hour and when you get paid your taxes will deduct 20% of your income. We also learned the three parts of a contract which are offer, consideration and acceptance.

should highschool students have a part time job?

In my opinion, I believe that high school students should have a part-time job.

When students are of high school age, their parents most times have an expectation for them to become more independent and financially responsible for themselves. Parents feel it is important that they learn how to manage their money and to pay their own way so to speak. Students will then learn the value of money and how hard they need to work to earn a wage. As teenagers, there is a time that they should pay for their clothes and entertainment. In some less fortunate families, it may be a way that the student can contribute to the family financially if needed.

It is also during this time that students may be thinking ahead to their future which may include attending college or university. Not all students are fortunate enough to get a scholarship or be from a family that can afford the high costs of post-secondary education. Getting a job and saving can be beneficial if this is the case. Books and accommodations cost more than students expect. Their goal could be to attend a college or university not close to their home which would mean there would be travel expenses as well.

There are other factors that can be positive for a student to start a job. Some students have trouble in social situations or making friends. Jobs can be a new start. New start to making new friends and learning new skills. Jobs can enable them to see what they like to do which may be entirely different than they thought. For example, A student may think she would like to be a waitress but is surprised that she doesn’t really like that and decides that she would be more comfortable stocking shelves. They will also learn to make decisions independently, and deal with cases where they will have to react quickly and sensibly to get the best outcome.

Finally, I feel that making the choice to get a job keeps students in a positive mindset. They won't be as likely to be on the streets and get into trouble if they are working. They are also away from social media which can be damaging to their self-esteem as well as they sometimes get caught up in the drama of it all. Meeting new people at work can also be positive because they will most likely be of the same mindset. Managing their time in a positive way is also a factor. Making time for keeping up on their schoolwork and social time can be difficult.

In conclusion, I feel that once a student starts to receive a paycheck and realizes how hard they had to work for that money, they will gain a new respect for the adults in their life who have worked hard to get what they have. They will understand that things aren't just handed to them and how making an honest living can be rewarding.

In this course, we learned about different cultures how they greet people, how they dress on different occasions, different celebrations, how they eat, and eye contact. When doing research I found that people in Pakistan have a collectivist culture in which they are profoundly connected and devoted to those in their inner circle. Citizens have often had to rely on themselves for assistance and opportunity rather than their government which is very different from Canadians. Even though they go through some hardship they have so many things that are very beautiful. For example their clothing, it has fancy beading and looks like a dress, they wear it during their celebrations like Eid. Also, their food adds an aspect to their culture they have delicious food. They cook really good food whether it's a special occasion or it may not be a special occasion.
