However, they have a lot of challenges with how to create one. 

I start with the why... ALWAYS start with the why
You are writing an Informative Essay on your subject. The reason for it is to inform other people about your topic so they can learn from you and contribute to the community. 

Then I explain the mechanics/formatting, and  the reasoning behind it...
You will tell your story about *topic* in five parts. In the beginning you need to give hints to the parts that will be coming so people will listen. In the next three parts, you tell each of the small stories that you hinted at, teaching the lessons or telling the legends. In the last part, you remind them of the hints to make the learning permanent. Some people need to be told three times to remember and we will do that for them.

Recently I had my students watch a series of clips from a documentary of a group of college students traveling to Guatemala to try to "live one dollar a day". Some of the experiences from these guys were portrayed to be these outlandish, never before seen, extremely bad conditions situations and my students just sat there watching like.... That's our realities... I remember there was a scene where the college students had to live off of eating rice and beans and my kids were saying how that is their usual home meals and I related to that too. I am very big on reflection and setting goals, so at the beginning of each month I have students reflect on what they want to change academically and in their own personal lives from the previous month. It helps them practice their writing skills and also learning to identify behaviors and patterns they have to promote self-growth at such a hard age (8th graders). In the history of medicine, there's been a well-known schism between "sound medicine" and what we would classify as "quackery." More formally, there exist two branches of medicine—allopathic and homeopathic medicine. Allopathic medicine is the medicine that we think of when we go to a hospital or visit a doctor's office. A patient presents with a certain symptom or set of symptoms, and the provider creates an action plan to counteract and eliminate the pathology. For example, a patient with high blood pressure is given antihypertensives to lower the blood pressure. Homeopathic medicine, on the other hand, is very culturally-specific and rooted in folklore and tradition rather than natural science. For instance, if a patient had a fever, a practitioner of homeopathy might make them stand outside in the heat or apply a warm cloth to their head. The action plan, then, is related to mimicking the symptom rather than counteracting it. Homeopathy is largely eschewed in the medical community.

For this reason, I think modern medicine remains stagnant in becoming culturally relevant. There is a resistance to change the ways things flow and what science has proven to be clinically effective.

Nonetheless, I think there is wiggle room for creating such opportunities. Let's say I have a patient from India who I just  diagnosed with prediabetes. Indian cuisine is known highly caloric and sugary. An inconsiderate physician may just give a meal plan created by some American organization to the patient and tell them to follow these dietary changes. However, that is disrespectful to the fact that diet and food can be vital, even sacred, to that person's culture. I tend to reason perceive items from mixed methods approaches. There are quantitative items that tend to be technical arithmetic with qualitative discussion to explain what the arithmetic represents. From the lesson, you can see key features of the vertex, axis of symmetry, and vertex. One of the research projects that my colleague and I worked on was a developing artwork that was reflective of their lived experiences as well as their cultural backgrounds. As a result, we received variations of how students defined culture and what they "know" to be identity. Understanding identity, transmission of knowledge and cultural representation is something that I am practicing with my students on a daily basis. I think this further supports my beliefs of knowing and being or maybe the better word would be "existing" in the world. Art lesson are reflective of identity, testimonies, reflection and social awareness. I think this also intersects with how I view art as being a multisensory experience one can have with knowledge. I love bonsai trees. It is the Japanese art of growing miniature trees.  A bonsai tree can be any type of tree. At the National Arboretum they have tiny Redwood trees (more commonly known for being massive). A bonsai tree is grown from a seed and nurtured and carefully pruned for hundreds of years.  There is not one right way to nurture a tree. With love and support it can be a massive tree, or with different love and support it can be beautiful in a unique way. I think this idea is important for students. So often society want students to progress a specific way. There is more than one right way to grow.
