Interdisciplinary Studies - Darwin found out that gradual geological changes over long periods of time influence plant and animal life, and any domesticated plant or animal bred to accentuate desirable characteristics is the result of artificial selection. He also concluded that the ability to reproduce and pass on traits that aid survival is as important as survival itself.
It's Only Natural - In 1858, Darwin and Wallace agreed to send their theories to the same scientific organization, and Wallace gave credit to Darwin for developing the theory first. Darwin called the process that shaped adaptations natural selection, which consisted of four main points: there is variation within populations, some variations are favourable, not all young produced in each generation can survive, and individuals that survive and reproduce are those with favourable variations.
Stop & Go - Darwin believed in gradualism, or when small genetic changes occur slowly within a population, but this is not supported by the fossil record. Gould and Eldredge believed in punctuated equilibrium; when populations remain genetically stable over long periods of time but are then interrupted by brief periods of rapid genetic change, which is supported by the fossil record, but Darwin claims that the fossil record is incomplete.

1. People didn't understand biodiversity, and once evolution was introduced, people (Bonnet, Lamarck, Darwin) had different theories about how it happened.
2.Darwin studies species such as the finches to better understand evolution, as well as geology, artificial selection, and population control. He argued that there is always competition for food, water, and space in the environment.
3. Darwin published his theories and observations he made over those 13 years. He caught the attention of Wallace, and together they introduced natural selection an variation in populations that are passed down genetically.
4. With evidence, Gould and Eldredge advanced another explanation branching off gradualism. They came up with punctuated equilibrium, suggesting that populations remain genetically stable for long periods of time, interrupted by sudden genetic change. These rapid changes can cause changes in the environment or an increased mutation rate.
