Answer:Scientists thought that the continents were just there from the beginning. (Keep in mind that this was before awesome tech). But what about the various fossils spread out throughout the world and that seemed very similar to others in different places? Well specific scientists called the Deluvionalists(or something like that) claimed "Noah's Flood" for that.
