Miller, S. (2018). GOP lawmakers prod Trump to fight court ruling that halted Keystone XL oil pipeline. Retrieved from https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/dec/17/keystone-xl-pipeline-gop- lawmakers-prod-donald-tru/

In this source, the author discusses the recent events involving the Keystone Pipeline, an oil pipeline that would interest reserve land for Native Americans. The article explains that republicans are encouraging President Trump to push the project forwards while our government has primarily republican control. Trump has expressed some interest in the project, the article stating that “one of Mr. Trump’s first acts as president was reviving the cross-country pipeline project that was killed by the Obama administration because of climate change concerns” (Miller, 2018). So, although Trump has shown his support by reviving the project, some are unhappy with the speed at which he is moving the project forward. This article was published on the 17th of December, 2018 by the Washington Times. It is sourced from a reputable news source and is recent, helping to prove its reliability. However, it lacks details and names regarding which lawmakers are pushing Trump. In general, the article provides few details and facts to prove their claims. This could be partly due to how recently the article was published; the story is still developing. Also, the image presented at the beginning of the article is of people protesting the pipeline, suggesting that the Washington Times supports those who oppose the pipeline.

From this source, I learned that the Keystone pipeline is still a relevant and controversial issue. My peers could learn about the Keystone project if they had not heard of it previously. After reading this source, my questions are – is this pipeline going to be built, how much can Trump influence this process, how would this impact the environment, and what do Native Americans have to say about this issue today? This source answered my curiosity regarding whether or not the Keystone pipeline could be built after the Obama administration shut down the project.
