Yes, Jamestown was a disaster because it didn't provided no type of gain to the colonist that settled there. Jamestown came with diseases and sickness that the people weren't strong enough to deal with or had the resources to deal with. The colonist who arrived in Jamestown didn't prepare themselves for challenges that they would have to face, they only had a mindset of getting money. The colonist didn't have the resources or materials needed to survive, they were ill equipped.

Yes Jamestown was a disaster because the men were being lazy and didn't plant crops for them to eat. "It is three planting seasons since the colony began. The settlers have fallen into an uneasy truce with the Indians, but they had more than enough time in which they could have grown crops" (Morgan,46). Instead of them planting food, they continued to pursue extraction industries such as gold, silver, iron (Morgan,40).

Jamestown was a disaster because, they were eager to get down to the business of extracting gold, timber, and other commodities to the ship back to London. But instead Jamestown proved that it was not paradise or gold mine. in the heat of that first summer at the mosquito infested settlement, 46 of the colonists died of fever, starvation or Indian arrows, All because they had one surgeon and about 400 something gentlemen who just sat around doing no work or helping. Instead they came looking for easy money and instead found self-inflicted catastrophe.

Yes, we believe that Jamestown was indeed a disaster. According to pages 52-53 in the book "Taking Sides", Their settlement was unorganized and did not have the proper resources in order to survive. When they first began to settle, they were not prepared for the outcomes (diseases, invasions, etc.) of living on the land known as Chesapeake Bay, being that the majority of the population were Gentlemen. On page 46, it was stated that the settlers were "failing to plant for themselves, depend heavily on the Indians for food." After a period of time, they reverted to cannibalism and the population dropped severely. Overall, they were only settling on the land to make a profit.

Yes, evidence of this is, in the heat of the first summer at the mosquito infested settlement, 46 of the colonists died of fever, starvation, or Indian arrows, this was because they were ill prepared and laggered. Also in the book "Taking Sides" it says, "but to have ninety-odd wise men offering advice while a couple of hundred did the work was inauspicious," Basically it is saying why are there mostly gentlemen around but not enough laborers for the colony to succeed.
