I was born in Israel, which is a country in Asia and the Middle East. When my family moved in 2002 I was only four years old and was starting to learn how to speak fluently in Hebrew. So for many months I my language was scrambled in between Hebrew and English. In time I learned English very well and it became my easier language. However, at home my family spoke a lot of Hebrew so my siblings and I could keep our first language. Although I was born in Israel and raised in the United States, I feel very connected to both countries. There are times when I feel apart from both and struggle to find my balance within these two countries. Nevertheless, I will always have a home in both of these two amazing countries.
My grandparents on my dad's side were originally from Europe, however, they escaped during World War II. My dad's mother was from Holland and my dad's father was from the Czech Republic, and was the only survivor in his family during the Holocaust. My mother's parents were both from Iraq and also left to start a new future in Israel.
This is a picture of the Mediterranean Sea in Israel:

My family and I usually travel to Israel to visit family every year or two years. We also love to go on road trips around the country. One of the best trips that I was a part of was the Birthright trip to Israel last summer. I was able to see all of the amazing sights and meet new people. This was very exciting because whenever I visit my grandparents we only stay with them and barely travel across the country. Another trip that I enjoyed was going to Universal Orlando in Florida, where I was able to see all the theme parks and spend time with my mom. This was also a once in a lifetime opportunity and I enjoyed every second of it very much.
Although I have traveled to Israel mostly every or other year, there are many places that I have always wanted to visit. One of my goals in life, whether it will be in two years, five, or even ten, is to travel to Africa, Asia, South America, Europe, and teach in one of the countries English or volunteer in many of them. I hope that one day this will happen.
Here is a picture of me on a camel during Birthright:

My family come from many cultural backgrounds. My mother's parents, Shoshana and David, were originally from Iraq and follow the Iraqi traditions as well as the Israeli ones. However, although I have Iraqi blood in my veins, I have never felt part of the country and never learned Arabic, although it is something that I had wanted to learn. Nevertheless my grandmother was an amazing cook and would treat us with Middle Eastern cuisine from delicious meals to yummy desserts. However, in August 13, 2016 she passed away and I still miss her terribly. My father's grandparents were originally from Europe. My grandmother, Genia, was from Holland and my grandfather, Israel, was from the Czech Republic. However, my grandfather passed away from cancer before I was born, and I was never able to meet him. I always wished I could have as my parents told me what an amazing person he was. My grandmother was also very special and used to cook for us special and delicious European dishes whenever we came to visit. She would take my sister and I out shopping and would spoil us a lot. Sadly, she also passed away when I was about nine and it was very heartbreaking. Although three of my grandparents have passed, I still have my grandfather on my mother's side who is alive and well. For that, I am grateful and know that I still have him in my life. I will always love my grandparents and hold them in my heart forever and always.
Here is a picture of three of my grandparents and I:

The Specialty Of My Ethnicity

Everyone's ethnicity is special and unique. The reason my ethnicity is special is because of my heritage. I come from a group of people who suffered so much in the past and still stayed strong for their people. All of my grandparents went through so much when they were young and were still able to enjoy life and live to their fullest. I have never felt more proud of being part of them. I know that my life has always been easier and less challenging. I may have had trouble and hardships during middle school with socializing, however I had never felt starvation or fear like my grandparents did when they lived in Iraq and Europe. I never lost all my family members like my grandfather did during World War II. This is why I feel that my ethnicity is special because my grandparents never gave up hope for their faith and culture during those hard times.

There are times when I feel sad and cannot hide my feelings. Sometimes I act happy even when I feel down because I am too afraid to speak up for myself. When I am around people I have never met before, it takes a while for me to open up. I have never been good at socializing, but once I feel comfortable I talk more. I believe that being kind and patient is one of the most important things in life and try my hardest to do both. I never give up even if I am on the brink of a break down. Life is important and therefore I try to live my best.

I work in A Child's Place, which is a program in Downing-town, PA. This program is part of many school districts and also day cares. I work in the after care in Pickering Valley Elementary School which is part of the Downing-town Area School District for almost two years and enjoy it very much. Working there has helped me with the experience of working with children and understanding the responsibility it takes to be a teacher. What makes this job really interesting and exciting is working with many students from different countries and cultural backgrounds. Many of my students are from India, and there are also children from China, as well as France. During the year we celebrate all the religious cultures of our students to make them feel welcome and part of our community. working there has helped me learn different things about foreign countries and understand the holidays and traditions.
Here is a picture of Pickering Valley Elementary School:

When my family first moved from Israel in 2002 to the United States we lived in New Hampshire until 2005. We went to Pine Hill Waldorf School, which is an education about which is a school that is mostly based on an Anthroposophy role of the imagination, intellectual, practical, and an artistic talent in learning. This was one of the best experience I had ever have and am grateful that I was able to experience this type of education. I also made friends very fast and although I experienced culture shock, I was able to slowly become used to the new culture. My parents told me that after we moved and I started my new school, I did have quite a culture shock for some time and even began to speak gibberish to cope with not being able to understand English. Even though I could not speak English, on the first day of school, I made a new friend and we were able to find a way to communicate while I spoke Hebrew and he spoke English. Slowly, I began to learn the language and luckily English became my best subject in school! A year after we moved to New Hampshire my little brother was born and I was an older sister! Sadly, two years later we had to leave our new friends and move to Pennsylvania. We started at Kimberton Waldorf School, a school like Pine Hill. However, unlike in New Hampshire, I had a hard time making friends over there until 5th grade when I met my new best friend. But that did not last long and I left the school after eighth grade to start somewhere new. When I joined Owen Roberts Public High school, it was the best decision of my life as I made new and good friends right away! They are the best things that ever happened to me and could not be more blessed. We are all still best of friends and one of them is even a student at Montgomery County Community College with me. Life here in the United States was wonderful, difficult, unforgettable, painful, and most of all extremely special.
Here is s picture of my friend, Bre, and I
