Once they realize that we will not laugh at them for what they don't know, kids start working as a team, handling equipment, asking for help as needed. Attendance improves, attitudes improve, success begins to happen and kids become confident, happy students. I talk to students all the time about anything I can and this makes our school climate soar! Even though they give us a tough exterior, they are longing to belong and be cared for! Yes, it is very tiring to put that much effort into each kid, but the payoff is awesome. If one of us can reach that kid, then we can all teach that kid! Greeting students with a smile and telling them that I have missed seeing them makes them feel loved.
