         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Helen Keller<br>Disability:  Deaf, Blind</strong><br>Hellen Keller (1880-1968) was stricken by an illness that left her deaf and blind when she was only 19 months old. Due to not being able to communicate, Keller began lashing out. In 1887, she began working with Anne Sullivan. Anne taught her how to communicate by writing words in her hands. In 1890, Keller began speech classes. She worked on learning to speak so that others could understand her for 25 years. She attended Cambridge School for Young Ladies and Radcliffe College. She was able to master several methods of communicating including touch-lip reading, Braille, speech, typing and finger-spelling. </div>]]></description>
